Jinhao 599 For Less Than $2!

Believe it or not, I scored a Jinhao 599 on eBay for less than $2.00 with shipping and handling from China! I have reviewed this pen before and gave it high marks for the price. Now, it is an even better value....

Me too.

I bought a red 599 and a 599a demonstrator for GBP 0.99 each a few weeks ago, and they should be here any day now.

Talk about value for money.

I also got lucky on a bid on EBay and managed to get 11 Jinhao 599s for $18.25 shipped. I do not know how many colors are available, but here is the selection I bought (minus the solid red, which I have already wrapped as a present for a friend):

They arrived yesterday, only taking nine days to arrive from China. I have inked the black solid with Noodler's X-Feather, and it writes very smoothly. More so than my x450s. I hope the nibs on all of these pens are as nice.

Here is the X-Feather on some cheap lined paper in a journal (my first use of the ink as well):

It's the Jinhao 599 that was bought for less than $2, that's being raved about.

Nice find. I got a bunch of 599 demos just after Christmas for a little bit more (around 3.00 shipped if I recall) and I agree with the OP. It's a good model. Indeed, great pens to experiment with. Even a klutz like me can grind the nib to a stub without freaking out if things go sideways.

The only thing that bothers me is the fact the ring that sits between the section and the body of the pen keeps falling off when I unscrew the barrel - I guess I'll just have to glue the thing on. Very minor annoyance. And to think these pens, equipped with converters, are cheaper than even a Platinum Preppy... Great value indeed.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
