Salutations From Houston

Hello all!

I came across this site while doing some research about learning Spencerian and decided to stick around.

I doubt any of these will be very interesting, but I inhereted these fountain pens from my grandmother after she passed away two years ago. I know she used one or two of them when she was in school in the 40s.

Welcome !

DON'T FORCE ANYTHING ! ! !

If it does not move as easily as your household, light switch, on the wall, STOP.

Dried ink can "lock" things up. We would not want to break any mechanisms.

Heirloom fountain pens are to cherished. Imagine your grandmother writing with the pen, everyday.

She wrote to schoolmates, and girlfriends, and sweethearts. She addressed wedding invitations

for her marriage to your grandfather. She wrote to friends boasting of the birth of her grandchildren.

Having an old, unbroken fountain pen restored to usefulness is not especially expensive. The "lever"

pens will need new internal ink bladders. I assume that caps are missing from the three on the right.

You are steward to a great family treasure.

Write with joy.

Auf freiem Grund mit freiem Volke stehn.
Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen:
Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

Thanks for the warm welcomes. I'm looking forward to adding a new hobby to the long list of things I don't have the time or money to do well, haha.

Being in Houston you MUST go to Dromgoole's in Rice Village. You'll love the ambiance and the wide

variety of pens. I live in Victoria but visit my daughter in Missouri City about once per month.

Welcome! I'm also a Houstonian and I second Dromgoole's. Go on a Saturday when the Pen Doctor (former Galveston Chief Medical Examiner/pen doctor) is there. He fixes pens and diagnoses writing issues. He shaved a pen nib for my specifications.

And check out the ink that's sold there - like Texas Blue Bonnet - that's not sold anywhere else.

Awesome. I'll have to pay them a visit sometime! I just went through Victoria the last week of January on my way to Laredo for my job.

With two recommendations, I'll definitely have to go, haha.

Any writing/pen type clubs or groups in Houston I should Know about?

Hello and welcome, I have included one link which gives information regarding the Dallas pen Club.

http://www.dallaspenshow.com/how-to-join.htm

There might be others, they would be a place to begin and might have additional information. My location is nowhere near TX, just like doing reseach and helpng fellow Network enthusiast, particularly new people. Good luck, Enjoy, nice inherited pens with no doubt plenty of history. As some people say about other items of bygone days, "if only they could speak." Perhaps in lieu of speaking, you might be able to help them to once again write.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
