LOL

Depends on the pen. Generally not a fan of platinum or palladium or chrome but have pens finished in all of those.

I much prefer platinum to gold. However, my first gold trim pen was the 146 and I'm strangely ok with it. I have since acquired two additional pens with gold trim, but only because I found great deals on them here. If money was no object and I always had a choice between the two.... platinum every time.

I enjoy MB 146 pens, Sailor, Pilot and Platinum pens as well. I have a strong attraction to dark red and muted green ink, colors I dislike for everything but FP ink. I also enjoy practicing my handwriting and attempting to improve it. I love the feel of quality paper under a gold nib.

In addition to the trim, just to cover all aspects lol, I think a Platinum nib looks much better over a gold or gold and Platinum nib. However outside of those options, I really love the rose-gold nib of the 90 Years pens too.

Usually I choose the gold finish trim; especially when the pen is of a traditional design.

On a few modern pens I like a silver colored trim as well, especially on colored or sterling silver pens (Solitaire Pure Silver, Crystal Boheme). Also I very much prefer the silver color trim Nikolai I over the golden one.

When it comes to silver colored trims I really love a solid sterling silver trim (Kafka, Christie,...).

Overall I own much more pens with golden trim.

Cheers

PS: what's your preference?

For me it depends on the color of the barrel and cap material. Some some colors like brown, red and green seem to really match well with gold. Blues and blacks could go either way. Silver colors are really popular right now but like fashion, preferences may change and gold could see a resurgence at some point.

If they made 149s with platinum trim they wouldn't be able to make enough to satisfy demand, IMHO.

I agree with the general drift of this thread. The all metal MBs are amazing. The white gold 146s with diamond trim are a grail for me--they are a gussied up version of my sterling 146.

It surprises me that the practical virtues of the metal pens are discussed so little. They are durable, they can be matched to one's watch and cufflinks, and they are harder to counterfeit.
