Sailor Kop Mozaique Material

I'm wondering what material is used for the Mozaique. Sailor notes if as acrylic. However, penwa and amazon sellers state that it is made from a base of ebonite with acrylic sprinkled in. Which is true? I am assuming it was a confusion by the sellers and it is full acrylic.

"

The King of Pens was developed as the oversized flagship symbol of Sailor's technology quality and writing perfection. Special attention was given to the oversize 21K solid Gold nib. The body of the pen was skillfully handcrafted from natural Ebonite a unique material providing quality and character to the product. The Mozaique features a special decoration made by small pieces of variously colored acrylic pellets 'formed' by high-pressured molding into the mosaic design. The mosaic material is then specially hand-shaped and polished by specially skill craftsmen to create this unique and colorful King of Pens Mozaique Fountain Pen"

My mid-size Profit Mozaiques are machined from acrylic stock.

I would think the KOP versions of the Mozaique would be also turned from solid acrylic blanks. My pens are built up from sections with rings in between, while the KOP barrels & caps look like they are machined, all in one piece.

they are acrylic - whoever wrote that description might not know very much about Sailor or the 'King of Pen' - their description has merged the separate description of the standard ebonite model with the description of the Mozaique

Thanks - that's what I figured. I also find sailors pricing model between these pens strange. For example:

Mosaic kop sells for $1100ish.

Ebonite kop sells for $830ish.

Mosaic pro gear sold for $590ish

Ebonite pro gear sold for $730ish

I'm sure the pricing in these pens is mostly in the nib anyways.

for what it is worth I would recommend the Ebonite KOP [i have the broad nib] - it is an absolute joy and the spartan form is glorious in a world of gold platted bands etc.! I bought mine via Engeika and paid $530 [plus the import duty into the UK which you wouldn't suffer]. If you haven't dealt with him before there are a variety of opinions [not all positive]. All I can say is he was very quick in replying to me and the whole process painless... He doesn't seem to list many Sailor items on his website so I think you have to email him directly. Obviously you won't have the support and setup you would get from nibs.com but if his prices are the same now it is a significant saving

hope this helps

Some of the mosaique are also spartan. I have a green version with no trim. I agree on Engeika. If he says he has or can get the pen, the cost savings is huge.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
