Yama-Dori Is On It's Way .. But I Can't Wait So Tell Me What To Expect.

After reading a short review and seeing some images I made an impulse buy on Amazon for about $20. Of course, now I get to wait 3-4 weeks for shipping from Japan. So I was hoping some of you could tide me over with your thoughts on this ink. In the meantime, I'll keep gazing out the window for the UPS truck.

Really really nice color, really big time red sheen. Maybe a bit on the dry side but a wonderful overall ink, will smudge for a while even if it appears dry so be mindful of that. Great choice though its a wonderful color!

The red sheen is what I'm really looking forward to. Thanks for the heads up about the smudging!!

It is a really enjoyable ink to use. I find the color very pleasing and the hint of a red sheen when the light is just right makes it all the more enjoyable to use. I bought mine through Jet Pens and got it in a week.

I got mine from Anderson Pens in under a week, it was $18 plus shipping. I like the fact that it is a dark teal-blue. It shades well, is fine for a business setting, but stands out from most inks you see around the office. For me, it flows fine and doesn't feather or bleed excessively. Overall, I'm not displeased at all by the purchase.

I haven't gotten it to sheen very much yet, but I'm looking for the right pen / paper combo to get that red to pop.

Edited: Corrected the price. I was confused

Aren't you all happy that Yama-dori is now part of the regular ink selection! And to think I hoarded the ink...

You must be confused with Iroshizuku? Yama-Dori is $18 per bottle.

Right you are, corrected my prior post.

I also got a bottle of Grenade. That's a great color as well..

I hoarded like seven bottles, but I was very glad it became a part of the regular line, so everyone gets the chance to try this, my absolutely favourite ink!

I hope someone at Scriptus is selling Yama Dori - I know Wonder Pens stocks it, but I wasn't able to try it when I was in store last. I do have some extra Sky High that I am keeping tucked away!

Mighty Goddess,

Only Blue and Black inks can be used on official documents. Is Yama Dori blue enough ? Is it not too green to be acceptable ?

Yours always faithfully

I'm seriously not a goddess of anything, I swear. I'm just a person who's been looking carefully at ink a lot for a bunch of years. But it's stilll hard to say when a blue is too green to be considered blue; that's a very subjective thing. Personally, I put it in my blue ink drawer, and I consider it a blue-green ink. I think you could get away with it in the office, but perhaps up against something like Asa-gao, you might be in trouble.

benincanada - at the November pen show, I'm sure you'll get a chance to try it. Remind me closer to the time, and I'll fill a pen with it for you to see. Or if you want, I could mail you a writing sample.

I probably should have gone that route but I already needed some other items from Amazon so I just added it onto the order.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
