Andrinople - L'artisan Pastellier

L'Artisan Pastellier is french ink / calligraphy materials producers. They offer two lines of inks suitable for fountain pens: CALLIFOLIO (inks made for fountain pens, neutral PH and so on) andENCRES CLASSIQUES (not all of them may have perfect properties however I've tried most of them and had no issues in my fountain pens).

L'Artisan Pastellier inks don't get much love or attention here. I understand this as they're not easily obtainable. You may buy them directly from the producer's on-line/stationery boutique. The best thing to do is to organize group buy (I've done it twice last year for polish sountain pen board). It's nice thing to do - you get to meet a lot of people to exchange inks and the shipment cost becomes really friendly.

I must admit I'm huge fan of Callifolio series. They have cool names and some trully unique colors. They're nor super-saturated but I like them this way.

Soon I'll prepare comparison of all 36 colors (there are two new Teodora and Olivastre) but it'll take time. Maybe November?

I'll make reviews of some of them.

Andrinople is pink-red. Not my piece of cake.

Wow. Um, yeah. That is pink alright....

Thanks for the review. It's interesting to see brands (like Callifolio) that I'm not familiar with.

I love your reviews, I'm not sure if I love this ink though, it stricken me as a very dusty Rose. Nicely saturated though.

The praise of the praiseworthy is above all rewards.

This one calls out for a CRV. Thanks for a great review!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Nice review, as always. I bought some callifolio inks a couple of months ago and, unfortunately, I don't like them so much. I find them too watery and under saturated for my tastes, and with an excessive drying time. For me they are a million miles from, say, KWZ... Did others tought the same?

I can send some samples, if someone wants to try, because I think I will never finish them over. I have Violet, Bleu Mediterranée, Inti, Anahuac and Canelle.

Hi KyleKatarn. Personally I like Callifolio inks however I perfectly understand why others don't. They start looking well in broad nibs. I've organised three Callifolio group buys in Poland in recent years and there are peole who dislike them and people who ask me to organise next group buy :) Everything depends on what and with what do you write. I've seen this inks in flex pen and the results are stunning. In drier pens they won't look really interesting though.

I agree with you that these inks look really well in flex nibs. I have adapted a Zebra G nib to Jinhao x450 pen and it is a joy to use these inks with it. Other than that I don't really like it, not even with B, BB, italics or stubs... As for the paper, I mostly use good one, Clairefontaine, Rodhia, Tomoe River, G. Lalo, Canson, Fabriano, Midori... So, I think that the quality of the paper hasn't influenced my opinion.

EDIT: I forgot to mention one thing I actually like a lot about these inks. They are all intermixable, so you can make your own concoctions and unique colors, if you feel like doing that kind of thing.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
