I rarely go to T.J. Maxx, largely because there aren't things I like to make wading through the junk worth my time...........till today.

 

MIRO JOURNAL
Large (10 x 7)
190 pages, 100gsm (fountain pen friendly)
Rubberband closure, bookmark, and back page inner-pocket.
Made from post-consumer recycled materials.

Great find! Where was it, in a clearance bin; perhaps in household items?

 

They had Journals in 3 places: household items, stationary, and on the way out. I found this in the large journal notebook section.

 

The one and only specimen they had!

 

I hope the gsm negates the "recycled & made in the USA" part. Don't get me wrong, I don't expect it to be Rhodia or CF, I just want it to not bleed or feather, ya know?

Wonderful, I love deals like this. I actually have picked off great deals on greeting cards and stationary, but never high quality notebooks. This one will be easier to spot with its green paper edges.

 

Totally unrelated, but if you like great cookware, keep an eye out for individual pieces of All-Clad at 70% off :)

Just finished writing a little and no feathering or bleeding, but there is some show through. Using back page will largely depend on the user. This is not in the league of EITHER Rhodia or CF, but drying times are short, so in the end, you take the good with the not so good. For $3.50 it is still a steal. :thumbup:

 

p.s. A5 is just a tad too small for me, while 10 x 7 feels just perfect. :D

Not a brand I'm familiar with, but it certainly looks lovely. Is the paper white or cream? Can't quite tell in that second picture, and if it's cream I may have to look out for these.

 

As for the Aladdin's Cave that is T.K. Maxx, I have to be very, very careful how often I set foot in that place. I've had some truly spectacular finds in my local one, including Apica, Semikolon, ridiculously cheap Paperblanks (the ones with decent paper), Eccolo, obscure Italian brands with gorgeous paper and so on, but I do tend to come out feeling rather skint. I also found my first Stickerbomb book in there, which was the start of quite the collection.

 

Also, for some reason, we know it as T.K. Maxx in the UK. Maybe they couldn't copyright the J over here. :P

It's somewhere between an off-white and cream, definitely NOT white, but not quite cream. UGH. Sorry, just want to be as specific as I can, or in this case, non-specific. ;)

As long it's not neon white, which is really what I was asking ;) Bright white paper gives me a headache, so I prefer cream, but I'll quite happily take off-white as well.

I've checked two TJ Maxxes, one in Bountiful, UT, the other in Santa Fe, NM, without success.

 

However, Daedelus Books has Miro notebooks on deep discount as well. I had purchased some a bit back, and their service was excellent. Sadly, I have no affiliation with DB, and more sadly, receive no kickbacks for mentioning them... <wry smile>

 

The Miro notebooks are very FP-friendly.

I stopped by T.J. MAXX today and found five (all they had) of the Miro notebooks. They were found in the clearance area of the store among numerous other journals and notebooks. Two are the 3.5"X5.5", and three are 7"X10". Both of the smaller ones are 100 gsm lined paper and two of the three large ones are also lined 90 gsm, and one is a blank 100 gsm. All of the 100 gsm paper is excellent, however the 90 gsm has extensive bleed through and feathering. The smaller ones were $2.99 and the large ones were $5.99. So my advice is avoid the 90 gsm paper unless you only want to use one side of the paper, but buy the 100 gsm one without reservation. Thanks for the tip Behike54!

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
