I'm doing some cleaning in the house and I've found some unscanned pages with comparison of different colors. Here are the greens (everything written with Kaweco Classic Sport turned into eyedropper and with broad nib on Oxford optic paper):

Very impressive.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Vis.. I just noticed two DeAtramentis Mahatma Gandhi samples below.. one is yellowish and the other one is orange.

Maybe you meant one to be Montblanc and the other DeAtramentis??

Edit to say: Yellow one should be DeAtramantis, Orange is Montblanc

@C - yes. I had samples of both and while doing comparison I repeated De Atramentis name twice.

Cool... I just forgot which one was which... Had to google it up.

Wow thank you for the great comparisions.

I think I still love the MB Ghandi ink-I doubt I will ever get to try it though. There were several colors that were close so maybe I will try those instead.

It was quite retina searing though. :yikes:

There are plenty of good orange inks now.

Here is my attempt to restore the pictures to this comparison thread by visvamitra.

PLEASE NOTE: These scans date from September 2014

As such, it is VERY likely that some of these have been reformulated since then!

E.g. I believe that Pelikan Edelstein Mandarin has been.

Do also please take note of visvamitra's opening caveat -

"Some scans are more or less accurate but there are colors that are hard to catch with scan or camera lenses."

With my warnings out of the way, I hope that you find the restored pictures useful.

ALL credit for these scans - and for the work that went into making them - is owed to visvamitra.

Enjoy!

It took me ages to finish this comparison and I'll be honest I'm not fully satisfied with the result. That's because I totally enjoy orange color. Some scans are more or less accurate but there are colors that are hard to catch with scan or camera lenses. For example Peach Haze - I don't really like it BUT it's quite unique because it blends orange and pink accents into one. However I didn't manage to catch it on my scans 😕

Anyway Orange, Brown and Green are my favourite colors. I'd like to present 32 shades of oranges and yellows. I hope you'll find my comparison useful.

Cyber6 - Thank you A LOT for a lot of samples :)

SUMMARY

I like most of the colors. The problem with orange ink is that it can behave in a nasty way and cause nib-creep, nib-crud, crystallise under the nib. So there are nice colors like Orange Crush or Shoreline Gold I wouldn't recommend to anyone who uses vintage pens.

I like most oranges. If someone evil-minded would make me choose only three I would pick Yu-Yake, Jentle Apricot and Toucan's Orange. Additionally I would take Taisanjii Yellow - it's yellow, right. I had to limit myself to three oranges. No one said a word about yellows.

Other colors I like a lot are: Autumn Oak, Golden Twenties Orange i Habanero.

There are of course colors I'm not so thrilled about. I don't like De Atramentis Ocher Yellow, it;s ugly. I don't like Mahatma Gandhi and Mandarin.

It's a pity I didn't manage to get samples of de Atramentis Oranges - some of them look really nice on scans. Maybe un the future.

The poll is multiple choice.

And now, for the sake of thread-coherence, I shall merely repeat vis' post from the top of Page 2 of this thread, so that all of his pictures can be seen in sequence...

Here, for cohesion/completeness, is a copy of vis' additional scans from the top of Page 2 of this thread - the pictures below date to July 2016.

I hope that my posts here have been useful.

Once again though, if you have seen an ink on these pictures that piques your interest, I urge you to seek-out some more-recent reviews of that ink!

Not only because it may have been reformulated since 2014/2016, but also because will need to know about its physical properties - flow-rate, feather/spread/bleed, nib-crud, ease of cleaning, propensity to stain pens/skin, shading, etc - before you buy it.

All credit for these useful comparisons is owed to visvamitra.

Slàinte,
M.

Thanks again for resurrecting the old images.  I'm not a fan of oranges, and most yellows are too pale to be legible on the page.  But I did get a bottle of Kobe Taisanji Yellow when I got the Sailor 1911S Wicked Witch of the West pen because it really should have been yellow (that's the color for the Winkies in Oz) and I didn't want to void the warranty by using a non-Sailor produced ink in it.  And that one is dark enough to be legible, especially when I got the pen with the "music" nib.
