Thank you very much for the list. Would you have the photograph of  corresponding pens to be used as a reference ?

Fun Fact, my “Glossy Red PVD-coating” came with an orange feed and a black feed.

That's intentional. The orange becomes red in the feed. The black one is for inks that might stain the orange/red feed.

Isn’t the Al-star to the immediate right (on the photo) of the ‘Petrol’ one an example of the ‘Ocean Blue’?

I think I remember that the ‘Azure’ was a much lighter/paler shade, very much like the older ‘Silver-Blue’ model.

🤷‍♂️

You are right, I copied and pasted the wrong name.

  • 2 weeks later...

It's funny to think that I don't have ANY of the standard Safari or al-Star colors. I ONLY have some of the SE colors (and only the ones I like, at that).  But one of the things that I really appreciate about Lamy is that the SE colors are the same price as the standard colors, and hope that the new owners keep that going.

We'll see how much I like the al-Star Aquatic, which is in the mail (I added it and a converter for it to an order to Pen Boutique in order to get to the threshold for free shipping, and still get the 10% discount they offered recently).

+1. The same pens only have different colours but the company can increase the number of pens made because to the regular buyers of a model you have to add the collectors that will buy the new colours even if they already have multiple examples of the pens.

Well the other nice thing is that the nibs on the Safari/al-Star/LX pens are easy to swap between those models and they have a reasonable range of nib widths.

I don't understand the people who sneer at Safaris for being "school pens".  All of mine in that "family" are good writers while not being expensive pens.

Of course, I don't understand the people who are the same way about Parker Vectors -- all of mine are inexpensive little workhorses (although I can see for those that they might be too thin to be comfortable to use for someone with large hands...).

The same can be said of probably 90% of the pen manufacturers now and since FPs were invented.

Very much in agreement! I am a fountain pen user, I like school pens: reasonably priced solid fountain pens, in many colors.

I also like some of the higher price range, LAMY metal pens.

Me too!

I am lucky enough to own a Lamy 2000, a few Pelikan piston-fillers, two Parker 75s (in Ciselé Sterling silver, and in gold) and two aerometric Parker “51”s.
But I also love - and continually use - my Safaris, Al-star, Vectors, Parker 25, and my Pilot Metropolitan.

These supposedly-‘lesser’ pens are robust, colourful, reliable, and they are also safe to use ‘on-site’ - or in a backstreet pub, where the ‘fancier’ pens might attract the wrong kind of attention.

Well, my new Al-Star Turmaline arrived today! I've already inked it up and have been using it. It is supposed to have a fine nib, but it is like a Pilot medium. Pretty smooth for a fine. The pen is simply beautiful.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
