Hack For Montblanc Ballpoints? *new Member*

Recommended Posts

Hi guys I just purchased a platinum montblanc ball point which I got for a steal price ! I asked in the shop how much refills are and they are quite expensive. So I was wondering if there are any other refills I could put in place of my original MB ballpoint refill as iam a student I tend to jot down quite alot of notes in lectures and a cheap refill would be ideal for this and I could swap it later on for my MB refill while writing up my notes into my file.

Any help is much appreciated! Thanks :)

You have to be very careful as not all refills that purport to fit Montblancs actually do. It is also important to establish whether it is a LeGrand or a Classique. Locally I can buy a pack of 2LeGrand refills for just under £9,which is not a bad price, but you can obviously buy them cheaper on-line. I do know that Rox do them at a very competitive price, but they are here in the UK.

Sorry ... forgot to welcome you to the Forum! Welcome !

it is a classique! not a le grand I have seen many threads talking about fitting the pilot g2 into the roller ball but nothig about what can fit a ball point! I just purchased a genuine MB refill in blue as I already have black but was thinking maybe cross might do ball point re fills that fit the MB meisterstuck classique! And thank you for the welcome! :D

Not sure about fitting non-MB refills into a classique. Office Depot/OfficeMax sell MB refills in pairs for $13.49, which is about $6.75 per refill which is cheaper than buying from MB directly. These refills aren't as good as refills directly from MB but for your needs should work.

The refills you have will work for a couple of years at least. I have had some work for several years. I like the MB refills better than others. You have plenty of time to figure out a cheapskate way to use a hack refill in a first-class pen. If I were in that situation and were so concerned about refill cost I would have bought something less expensive as a strategy.

I bought it because I got so much money off the retail price and I thought it would be something nice I could use in my final year of my degree too add sentimental value i could use as an heirloom. I will carry cheaper ball points as well it would just be nice if I could use my MB for everything

It's the rollerballs that only last a few pages. A ballpoint refill is different.

MB rollerballs only last about 6 pages of writing for me. That's about a dollar a page.

MB ballpoint refills do last a good while. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative you might try the Monteverde ballpoint refills that are specifically made for MB pens. They work well and are less than half the price per refill of the MB version.

Maybe its just me but if I don't have a Montblanc brand refill in my MB pens, I don't feel like I am actually writing with a Montblanc pen. Putting a non-Montblanc refill in cheapens the experience. Just my opinion.

Get a fountain pen. Only folks who dont know better use ballpoint pens to take class notes.

+1 Monteverde ......... that was the name I was trying to recall ..... there have been a number of members who have recommended these in the past.

This will have been your first venture into 'more interesting' writing instruments, and its led you to this Forum ..... maybe it'll lead on to a greater interest in pens, and this Forum is a great place to learn. You have bought a nice pen by an iconic maker, and if you keep it and look after it, you'll probably always have a fondness for it, being your first...... as with so many other 'firsts'!

Enjoy it!

Whilst I agree, I think about the comparison between the cheapest Parker Jotter and a Parker 61 Ballpoint in 18ct Gold. £5 against £1500+ but still the same refill

And there have also been a number of FPN members who have declared a preference for non-MB refills, irrespective of the cost.

I will its just a ballpoint is so easy to use and reliable all you need to do is twist the barrel and no risk of dropping the lid down the back of the person in front at lectures, just quick and simple ! I will eventually get a fountain pen I have just yet to decide which one! anyone have any pointers for someone starting out? I was thinking montblanc 149 in rose gold 90 years one or a LAMY 2000. Anyone of think of a better option?

The 90th 149 is a nice pen,but no need to pay the 'extra' if you are just looking for a nice pen to write with. You can pick up an 'ordinary' 149 that will do the same job as a 90th, for a lot less $. If you find that you then like the 149 (and they are very nice pens) then think about getting the Special Edition. I can't advise on the Lamy 2000, sorry.

The only non Montblanc refill i like is the Monteverde GEL refill for ballpoint pens. All of my fineliner and RB I use official refills. The reason I tried the Monteverde refill is because MB doesn't make one of this type. I got 2 for $10 on amazon.

I like that I get a roller ball type feel when writing but maintain the benefits of the quick twist on the ballpoint pen. They do not write as good as my MB roller balls with official ink (either RB or FL), they do have some blotting etc. However Its nice for my everyday pen to sign forms at work without the need to unscrew my caps each time (my RB pens). I just started using them so I can not comment on longevity but for $10 for 2 I do not think you can go wrong. Now if you just want regular MB roller ball ink, buy official as they really do last quite some time compared to the RB/FL. Hope this input can help someone!
