I have two Diplomats, one is a piston-filler (from circa 1970?) with a 14k (585) nib; the other a cartridge (International small) with a GP steel nib. Both are superb writers. Does anyone know why Diplomat quit making (to my knowledge and search skills) piston-filler pens? Quality-wise, mine is at least equal to a Pelikan 400-series pen.

Thanks for the info will do some research.....

I wil start in FPN fora

There is a good thread in the Misc pens section.

Some brands to consider:

- Deccan - they make what are, IMO, the finest stock Indian pens. They are a pain in the rear to buy from, as they do not use electronic communication or payments, but FPN member "mesu" sells a few of them, i believe, as does Fountain Pen Revolution. They also use aerometric fillers in a bunch of their designs, which avoids the problems with the ED pens.

- Ranga - MP Kandan is a member here and his father makes very nice handmade ebonite pens. They are quick on email, they take Paypal and now he has sourced Jowo or Bock (I forget which one) nibs and feeds, his pens are really good value for the money, especially the bamboos.

- Gama - I only have 1 or 2 of their pens and have yet to ink them but Hari, who knows what he is talking about, speaks very highly of them

- Wality - they make really good and very inexpensive acrylic pens.

- Ratnam - long-running family manufacturer. Makes a very wide array of designs, and his hand-made gold nib is a really good writer but he is let down by the quality of the feeds he gets (as are most Indian pen makers), as his ED pens - like most of those listed here - tends to burp ink when near-empty.

- Kim & Company - havent tried any by them, but they seem nice, based on photos i've seen posted.

There are more, but these are the notables.

True bliss: knowing that the guy next to you is suffering more than you are.

Do not why they quit making piston fillers.... How sad :(

But since the Fountain Pen is having a revival..... And I speak German....

I might call the and ask them about this.... Will also ask for their company history then

Kuretake/ZIG is one expensive one. You can find them normally in the Anime Expo. Their FP series is hard to imo, but for some reason their brushes are easy to find, so watch out if you buy one make sure it's FP not a brush.

Also do you do for disposables too?

Most of the others are Japanese pens.
