Pilot Metropolitan Is $10 At Staples

fiberdrunk

Recommended Posts

This is just a heads up that Pilot Metropolitan fountain pens are on sale for $10 at Staples (online only). The sale expires July 5th or until supplies run out. They have them in black, silver and gold (medium nib). If you have a Staples Rewards card, shipping is free. If you don't have a Staples card, you can select to have it shipped to the store for free.

eta correction: Staples does in fact offer more than just the black, silver and gold. It offers the animal designs, too, including purple and white.

Darn, just ordered one from the Goulet's yesterday! I purchased the White Tiger version, though, that Staples doesn't offer so I am still content. :P

Thank you for the tip, fiberdunk.

At this price, I'll pick up a few and use them for giveaways/prizes. Amazing pen for the price.

Yes, Goulet's definitely has a better color and nib size selection, at not much more cost-wise. I ordered one of their groovy purple ones to use with Noodler's Violet Vote. Long live purple!

I was tempted by the purple Leopard one, too, but for some reason, I decided that it was time to get my first white pen. I purchased one with a fine nib; hope I am not going to regret that. Either way, I might have to get the Leopard with a medium nib as well. (And, not that I need one, but I'll then have an excuse to buy more purple/violet ink, too!)

Staples does have the MR Metropolitan in the Animal Collection. The only nib available, irrespective of color, is medium.

Yes, I just caught that, too. Darn, I wish I would've noticed sooner before ordering!

You folks have caused me to go astray - just went to Staples' website and ordered the purple Leopard Metropolitan. :P I knew there was a reason I have been avoiding FPN lately....

If you aren't a rewards member you can get free shipping by ordering over 20 dollars (or two pens as I did). It's a good deal since I was looking to get a Metropolitan anyway and if the wife doesn't want the second I can give it to my daughter. I would have enjoyed a Fine point more, but for the price reduction I can't quibble much.

Thanks for the alert. I've passed this on to some of my students; this would be a nice pen to add to their respective collections.

It is too bad they only come in medium nibs, but beggars can't be choosers, right.

I received a coupon from staples that is $30 off a $60 or more order. The Metro doesn't fall into the exclusions. So theoretically, I can buy 6 Metros for $60, get $30 off and pay a net $5 per pen. Guess who is doing his Christmas shopping in June? This guy!

I'm still not sure if it's going to happen. I just placed my order for 6 Metros. $31.80 including tax and shipping. We'll see if they actually ship them or somehow cancel the order.

I hope the deal works out for you, bIINK; $5 for a Metropolitan is a great price!

For those that want fine instead of medium nibs you will have to pay another $5 (+shipping) and buy one at Goulet Pens or Isellpens or one of our other respected vendors. :( On the other hand, I figure we are talking Japanese nibs here, thus the medium is probably closer to a Western fine so you may find that the line width from the Pilot medium nib suits you perfectly! And you can also check out the nib nook on Goulet Pens and see a writing comparison of the line width of the two nibs. Guess I will find out when I receive mine - since I have also purchased the White Tiger with fine nib from Goulet Pens, I will see/feel the difference for myself.

Hi, I ordered these and in 30 hours I had them. I had them sent to the nearest Staples and then picked them up yesterday. Great deal. I might get some more and like some of the posters, store them for future presents.

Excellent, Larry! (And I assume you picked them up at the nearest Staples, not the nearest Walmart. :P) I ordered my Leopard print yesterday and it should be delivered to me today - much to my surprise, the Rewards card I got several years ago and have almost never used was still good so I got free shipping to my door.

fiberdrunk, you are an excellent enabler!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
