Big Scratch Pad By Norcom

This isn't a review or even a mini review really, but more of a look-what-I-found, which I found in a grocery store.

It's called Big Scratch Pad. And for $1.50USD you get a whopper: 4x6" and 220 sheets. It's so big it's funny to look at. I like it.

Norcom distributes it. Made in India. The paper is ruled, white, and smoothish, not unlike the paper it uses in its composition notebooks. You could write your novel on it.

Feathering, bleed-through, and show-through might not be considerations when considering what to use for a scratch pad. I wasn't even looking for a scratch pad when I found this one. But I'm pleased to report that I've seen no feathering whatsoever, no bleed-through, and less show-through than I see on most papers. Certainly much less than you should expect from a scratch pad that costs a buck fifty.

Look for it at your local supermarket.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

In which store did you find this?

Winco, a store I don't normally visit. (It was the middle of the night and this was the only place open where I could walk around.) I haven't looked for this pad anywhere else. But it's a Norcom product. For all I know, you might stumble onto it anywhere.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

I nabbed a 'journal' at the dollar store yesterday. The sheets are a variety of colors that pull out easily and I had grabbed my new Pilot MR in the mail on my way out the door, so I bought it just for testing while out at dinner...

... turns out to be a pretty good pad. The sheets are the perfect size for small doodles. There is some show-through and a bit of bleed on the wetter pens. No feathering.

Just goes to show that you can find fun paper to work with anywhere ;)

Exactly. Even when I'm someplace that shouldn't and probably doesn't have a single worthwhile writing-paper product, if it's there I'll look at it, see what it is, where it was made. I can't help myself. I was at an office last week to pick up a former colleague for lunch, and while I waited I helped myself to a sheet of copy paper from a stack on a nearby table, just to see if it was any good. It was. I asked the assistant about it: 22lb Staples Multi-Purpose. I'll keep it in mind.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
