Permanent And Waterproof Ink Recommendations

Hey guys, I'm looking to get some permanent and waterproof inks that are available in the UK. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You can get MB Permanent Blue and MB Permanent Black at your nearest pen shop or Montblanc boutique.

[The Good Captain]

Diamine Registrar's; Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black and Brilliant Black; R&K Salix & Scabiosa; Namiki Blue & Black; Sheaffer Skrip Black. The all offer pretty reasonable water-resistance.

And there are probably more if you care to look around on this site.

Of the three pens currently on my desk, two have permanent and waterproof ink in them - De Atramentis Document Ink dark blue (which is a blue black colour) and De Atramentis Document Ink black. These are nano-pigment inks, available in the UK from The Writing Desk (twdpens here on FPN).

DeA document inks are "nano" inks? I figured that they just used cellulose reactive dyes or such. Hmm...

Could make for an interesting comparison with Sailor's offerings.

I really like the new MB 90 Years Permanent Grey. MB Permanent Blue is nice too.

According to Morbas Curiositas' review De Atramentis Document Ink is nano pigment ink. If you want confirmation, the best thing is to email Dr Jansen at De Atramentis.

Here are a few safe non Iron Gal water resistant inks:

Montblanc new non IG midnight blue,

Cross black

MB Oyster Grey

 

These offer decent water resistance. They all remained very legible on Rhodia paper after a quick water bath and so should survive a water accident.

I use Sailor's Kiwa Guro (Black) and Sei Boku (Bluey ), and have found them to be excellent.

 

I like them better than the iron-gall inks I have.

 

They are however, a bit scalpingly priced in the UK

 

The Pelikan Briliiant Black is also surprisingly water -resistant, and is well priced.

Platinum and Sailor pigmented inks, MB permanent series inks Grat, Blue, Black, Noodler's Inks and you have tons of them so far that's what I know Namiki inks are reported to be waterfast but I'm not sure by what degree, Akkerman IJer-Galluten bw/zr (this is Iron-Gall though) the rest eludes me

We (husband and I) have found the DeA black document ink to be wetter than the traditional iron gall inks. However, it takes a bit more pen maintenance; I would only use it in pens that I can strip down and clean easily e.g the Safari/Al Star/Vista family.
