Sorry! I looked into getting phenol to clear up the ink, but it's nigh impossible where I live. And it was just getting worse within the bottle.

You did the right thing to do (especially if it's growing worse so quickly, so much yuck), sorry about the phenol recommendation, I got the flag wrong and didn't realize you were in the EU where it's considered problematic. Best of luck with cleaning out your pen and I hope this doesn't happen again! Edited by WirsPlm

Cheers! The pen seems good, so I'm kind of hoping it's all good. :)

Look up cleaning solutions, and cross check with the material of your pen. You will want to clean the pen at minimum twice a month for the next few months to keep an eye on any further growth. Mold has a cycle, sometimes you'll kill the stuff that has grown out of the spore stage, but there might still be spores lingering in the pen. Spores are hard to kill. Make sure you don't mix converters to another pen that can cross contaminate. If you have a ultra sonic cleaner I would quickly disassemble the pen and throw it in the USC with minimum a 1:10 ammonia solution and run it through MANY cycles, or use a solution for killing mold that won't harm your pen parts. You're fortunate you caught the problem early, and sludge came out of the pen instead of getting stuck inside where it would fester.

Hi,

I got in touch with the distributor here, they refunded me the full amount and also sent me an ink of my choice (Diamine Blue Black). I got the package yesterday, they also gave me a bottle of Diamine Twilight.

Good to hear they were accommodating.

In my layman's opinion, slime coming out of an ink bottle means it has a very high yuck factor.

It's a shame as Herbin's ink is so nice! But it has this floor to it. There blues are really nice!

Bought some ammonia yesterday, and gave the Safari a nice ammonia/water flush and then cleaned it as per usual. I'm hoping that it's all contained...

I really love the colour of the Lierre Sauvage, and will definitely buy another bottle of it at some point. I haven't tried their blues yet, but heard that Eclat de Saphir is amazing. At the moment really happy with the two Diamine inks as well, their blue-black is pretty nice.

Thanks again to everyone for the advice!

PS: I think it goes without saying, but just putting it out there for other viewers, keep ammonia and bleach away from each other, lest you want chemical burns in your lungs. (mainly mentioned because bleach was not mentioned yet in the thread, and *some* people do use bleach to kill mold, and if they haven't had a mother that taught them the cleaning basics, they might think bleach and ammonia might work very well)

Learned about that in chemistry class, so definitely not mixing the two. :)

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
