Hurricane Anyone?

Techi

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have recently found a local seller selling a syringe filling fountain pen by the name of 'Hurricane'. I have never heard of this maker (or model?) before, and a search on google only revealed these pictures - which are very similar to the sellers.

I wondered if anyone else had heard of such a pen, and whether you could enlighten me as to its history.

Thanks for any help,

Techi.

I looks like one of the uncountable legions of Parker "51" clones that surged out of Italy. And by uncountable legions, I mean brand names, not individual pens, although they appear to have all come from the same factory.

It's mainly pens, just now....

Oh, good heavens. He's got a blog now, too.

Ah yes, thank you both for the info and quick replies.

Its syringe filling caught my eye, and for £5 i thought it would be worth it - possibly just to test my nib altering skills

It looks like the one I found twenty or so years ago, in the parking lot outside my office. Nobody ever claimed it and I still have it. Last year I bought a dozen or so, mostly in parts, from a fellow member on here; I've managed to put almost all of them together into a working pen, and have given several away. They have the same syringe filling mechanism, but are smaller than my original pen (and smaller, I would guess, than yours). The syringe screws out on both sides and you can then thoroughly clean the whole pen. Some silicone grease helped most of the mechanisms to take up ink again. They are all nice writers.

Thank you Mhguda, i will give it a full clean when it arrives and post some pictures here for comparison to yours. Thanks for the info about the syringe, i imagined it to have been glued in from the look of it - so it good news to hear the contrary, from a restoration point of view.

You're welcome, but I suggest you be careful with trying to unscrew - while the ones I've had experience with all unscrewed, you never know! However, once you've cleaned it and it doesn't unscrew, try immersing it in a little warm water, with maybe some dish detergent added for lubrication. The one pen I was not able to match anything with was the one I put into too hot water - the hood shrunk dramatically, and the nib&feed assembly no longer enters! Anyway, good luck with your project. I had lots of fun getting mine into some sort of working condition, and the filling mechanism is neat, I find.

It was just from a small local seller on eBay, only 5 miles away - and not a bad price either now will just have to wait to give it a good service and some nib adjustment presumably

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
