My wife and daughter and I will be traveling to Lansing Michigan next week (my daughter got accepted to grad school at MSU) to look over the place. Does anyone know of any pen shops in that area?

TIA

I don't know of any, although any local antique shops are possibilities. If they are driving in, there is a Paradise Pen in the Somerset Mall in Troy - might be out of their path, though.

Ya think?

All the ones I've tried searching for around Grand Rapids, Michigan (bout hour and a half northwest of Lansing), don't seem to exist either (there's some custom job downtown, that only sells their own handmade pens at kind of a excessive price). The best I could hope for locally is a Staples with the usual displayed items.

Couldn't tell you much about lansing though, any time I looked it up seems like there's Detroit, and then Chicago, but not much to be found in between. So I'm kind of curious if there's actually something within an hour or so of my location.

Michigan is pretty dry for quality pen stores. There is a place in Royal Oak on Wooward but that is far from Lansing.

Might explain why when I ordered my Faber-Castell directly from the manufacture, it was shipped from "The Appointment" in Cincinnati, Ohio, and not some place a little closer. (since they ship from whatever authorized retailer has one available). Course could be a coincidence, but the more I look, the more your statement seems to hold true. (thank goodness for these boards though, can least get somewhat an informed opinion before window shopping online).

There was once a shop in Downtown Detroit, Financial district, as I recall.

Shinola carries journals. Left a subtle H I N T that a fountain pen go with might be an idea.

My personal experiences in Paradise Pen - Somerset Mall were above average.

Been awhile since in Lansing area.

Paradise Pen is about 80 miles from Lansing (East Lansing where MSU is) and their pen prices are full list. They carry some inks; Aurora black and a selection of Private Reserve.

Your best bet is the IPEN STORE in Dexter which is near Ann Arbor but that is still 40-60 miles away. They are not open on weekends and close during the week at 5:00 PM or 5:30 PM
