Double A Copy Paper In Office Depot

Recommended Posts

This morning I stopped by a small Office Depot in mid-city to pick up some notebooks and xerox paper. My eyes immediately zeroed in on cases of Double A copy paper. This was a bit of a surprise. Down here, Office Depot hasn't carried Double A paper in well over a year.

If you haven't used Double A paper for writing, it is reasonably priced and is quite FP-friendly.

Have wanted to try Double A paper since I first saw it mentioned on FPN but have never seen it the stores here. How does it compare to say, HP Premium 32# paper. Lighter, heavier, similar? (I do have HPP32.)

22#--lighter weight comparable to HP 24# paper. Not as bright; similar behavior with fountain pens. I'm testing out the HP for daily writing as I found Double A tended to bleed and spread a bit with certain inks. My overall experience suggests it's not worth paying the price for HP 24# paper as compared to Double A. The performance isn't that much improved. You can also order a case (5 reams) from Amazon.com for $34.95 with free shipping.

Here's the link for Office Depot Double A paper at $29.99 a case with in-store pick-up. That's pretty doggone good. The last time it was carried by Office Depot it was $25/case.

Actually I love Double A in both my printers. One is a Brother laser jet, black only and the other is a Canon ink jet. The print jobs are crisp and the paper feeds well in both.

I would agree with mm1624124's assessment (that is a hell of a screen name). Not nearly as heavy, white, or smooth as the HP Premium. I haven't had many problems with feathering as I am so biased against feathering inks, I usually never have any in a pen. Double A is smooth, and I don't find that I have problems with ink "puddling" on it.

Jeffery :

Thanks for the heads-up on this item ! I checked my local OD today, and they too were carrying Double-A again.

I will say that I've found this superior to the HP Premium for making custom page inserts for my Arc/Circa notebooks in terms of finish and FP use. The Double-A is not quite as heavyweight as the HP, but it seems to be superior in crisp more quickly drying lines for my inks. Granted, there's a trifle more showthrough with one or two inks, but not generally. Of course, that characteristic is very dependent on one's specific nibs and inks. I use CI nibs, so I do get a fair bit of ink laid onto the paper.

Great point. PJohnP. Double A is the only paper I punch myself for the Circa notebooks I use. It is difficult to punch more than a few sheets for the Circa system at a time, and I have stopped using HP Premium for Circa at all because of the thickness/weight of HP.

Agreed. That's why I opted for the HP 24# just to see. I don't think I'll repeat that effort. Double A has been working out for me in most arenas. All my Circa notebooks are purposed for work, so I can tolerate a bit of skewed performance now and then since 99% of it is short-lived. For longevity, I print out the report (Double A paper, of course) and punch into a Circa.

Yeah the screen name ain't the best. I'm not the creative type so it fits.
