Sterling silver probably has more 'status',but which is the pen that you prefer and which is priced right for you? I personally like the 925,but that is a personal preference.

I believe the price difference is about a few hundred dollars. I would go for a sterling silver.

Surprisingly the price is the same!!!

If the prices are the same, and they are genuine, then the Sterling Silver makes sense.

No brainer for me. Go with the Silver. Of course, you'll have to polish it once and a while. But it's silver! ;)

Out of interest, are the FPs or RBs? And do you mind sharing how much?

It's FP.

The seller is giving me approximately 50% off the RRP, but with full confidence I know its original. I have bought pens from the seller before.

The reason why the Sterling silver model is the same price as the Stainless steel because the Sterling Silver is a discontinued model.

Er, this could just be me, but wouldn't a discontinued model (especially something like a sterling silver pen from Montblanc) fetch a higher price than a stainless steel version, not to mention one that's still being produced? The latter is all well and good, but the former just seems much more desirable to me.

Anyway, were I in your enviable position, I'd doubtless go for the silver one.

Cheers, and best of luck!

I would have already gone for the silver version.

Actually, I have! I have a silver Solitaire 146 and a silver Solitaire Doue 146

The seller strongly recommend that I get the discontinued one... The price will appreciate more in the future.

:) thanks for confirming that

It depends if it's the 144 or 146. I bought the Solitaire Doué in 144 with the zigzag etched pattern (I think it is discontinued but not sure) and even if the nib is wonderful, I hated it. Only the cap is in metal, the pen is in black plastic. It is so lightweight and tiny in my hand (average size) that it feel cheap. When posted, it is ridiculously unbalanced. I had to buy a poor quality stainless steel replacement part of the barrel, probably from a Chinese clone of the original 144, at a price really too expensive, in order to enjoy my pen.

So if it's a 144 or a 145, I would recommend to go with the silver sterling version (which has the body in metal if I'm not mistaken) to really enjoy your pen.

It it's the 146, I have no clue.

I personally don't like the sterling silver because I have to give it a polish once in a while. When silver tarnishes, the pen gets a vintage look, which I don't personally like. But just like others have said, the price will appreciate a little in the long run.

The stainless steel will have a lot of fingerprints on it after use, which means it needs a good wipe almost every time after you write to keep it look nice.

Just my two cents.

BTW, Chrissy would you please tell me the difference between Solitaire Doue and Solitaire? Thanks in advance.

As the price is the same, I will go for the sterling silver one. The pens are poor investment vehicle. I don't pick pens based on the likely resale value down the road, which could be more difficult than picking a winning stock.

Go for the silver. It will have a better resale value, though as Pen2009 mentioned, you should not buy a pen as an investment if you want to use it.

Silver all the way. Why would you go with stainless, when a precious metal could be obtained.

In order to appreciate the sweet, you must truly taste the bitter....
