I stopped by a local MB Boutique today for a customer appreciation sale. They had a number of pens on sale at 50% off and i was tempted by a couple of 146's. But, when they showed me the photos of the soon-to-be-released 149 90th Anniversary Edition I knew I would save my money for that! It looks beautiful with the rose gold nib and appointments.

can you go a bit further into detail of what it looked like?

In order to appreciate the sweet, you must truly taste the bitter....

I'll try -- standard black resin, rose gold nib (etched with 90), and rose gold clip. Very elegant. I was told this is the first time the MB 149 has ever been issued with such changes in its entire history. The anticipated retail price is $960.00 USD. Hope this helps.

I guess the SA forgot about the 75th edition...ROFL.

I am guessing that the star was standard white, rather than MOP. T

Thank you for the further details.

Houston MB also have a a sale going on. I stopped to pick up my 149 from service and they showed me a nice collection at 50-60% off. This year they actually have nice stuff I'd consider, like steel dou 146, carbon 146, etc. I was surprised they didn't advertise as they've done in the past.

Oh my. I was hoping to pick up a 149 nicely used, but new special edition in rose gold trim? Yikes, I'm starting saving tonight!!

"Ahh, thanks?"

Thanks for the info. I think $960 is a reasonable price. I called the boutique in Chicago yesterday but the sales rep told me she hasn't heard anything yet.

$960 is NOT a reasonable price in my opinion. However, it's tempting...

Well, it's the same price as the regular 149. For a special, aniversary edition, which looks gorgeos, a price that is no higher than the one of the non-special version seems very reasonable to me. :P

A very tempting price to get at least one. (Special editions are only made within the year of release normally.)

My preferred supplier (no affiliation just a very happy customer):

The question is now simple. Is a MOP star worth $1,000 extra dollars?

I am a simple man, if not a Simplo man. Could somebody explain what "90th anniversary" means if we are talking about the 149? So far as I am aware, the 149 was introduced in 1952 or some such year.

To be fair, I think this has been discussed previously by some of our German members. Perhaps they could clear things up for me.

There will be several pens dedicated to the Meisterstück's 90th aniversary. The 149 is just one of them.

I would like to see a close up of the nib. In the picture it looks monotone. I hope it's not. The three-toned nib is what I like best about the 149.

I guess they are celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Masterpiece which was introduced in 1924. So they do not celebrate the 149's birthday nor the birthday of the other 14x pens (two years ago, there was a special event for the 60th birthday of the 149).

Let's wait and see their marketing campaign.

But as you know ... Montblanc always liked "playing" with its own history. May be some of you remember the 1988 anniversary pen for the 80th annivversary? Well in 2006 they had their 100th anniversary ... so obviously, they do not care much about their history.

In response to one observation above -- the nib is monotone -- according to the photos that I saw at the Boutique.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
