Now it is possible to order the Goliath pens also with a bigger nib. This nib is a 8-9 size ( 18kt gold, pur yellow or Rhodium plated on request), the dimension is very close to the 149 MB nib. For the first step this nib is available for the pearl and black Goliath. But on request everything is possible :-)

The number 8 sized nib looks just right on this pen. Does the larger nib make the nib feel softer when writing?

Yes, the bigger nib is more flexible, very close to the vintage 60´s nibs. It was really a surprise for me to see that these nibs are more flexible then the # 6 nibs. Maybe it happens because I ordered the raw nibs without any embossing.

Sounds great, Max....

 

I acquired a nice black Goliath a few months ago...excellent pen!

 

Is it possible to get one of the new large nibs for it?

Hi Mark,

 

This is not possible because I had to change the design of the cap, cap top with logo, feed, grip section and barrel. I will post later a picture of the "new" Goliath design.

Bigger nib size needs new design. In total every Goliath pen with the # 8 nib is a little bigger and the cap top is now taken from the silver damascene pen.

I was fortunate to acquire this superb pen last week. I chose the larger #8 nib and the push-button filling system. I should say that the whole experience of buying from Max was absolutely first-rate. He answered all my questions very promptly. The balance of the pen is wonderful and I'm very pleased with my choice of nib. The nib is certainly large; it's bigger than my Sailor KOP or Delta DV Oversize (I don't have an MB149). It writes really smoothly (using Parker Washable Blue). The barrel is spectacular; it's a mixture of various greens with the black and pearl running through it. The push-button system seems to work well and, overall, I'm delighted with my purchase. Regards, Paul

The bigger nib definetly suits the pen.

 

I have Deltas with both #6 and #8 nibs, and the #8's feel softer. So it's design of the nib, not the stamping or lack thereof.

 

Are these Bock 350 nibs? If so they're the same as the Dolce Vita Oversize; however, I believe Max makes his own feeds so he may seat the nibs differently, so that more of the nib is exposed and less hidden inside the section (making it look bigger).

The nib is called #8 because it is designed for a up to 8 mm feed diameter. Bock has no 350 nib, the bigger nibs are the 250 and the 380. I use both for the Astoria Goliath pens. The 380 is very similar to the 149 MB nib, only more or less 0.3 mm difference in the - Shoulder width: 9.9 mm Bock nib. MB 149 something around 10.2 mm.

my astoria goliath has arrived at my sister's place in virginia. looks great, but sadly i won't get to hold it for another two months, until i meet my sis in canada in mid-may.

this pearl-and-black goliath is a custom job thanks to max, a big piston filler that's 145 cm capped, fitted with an 18K B-stub nib.
not cheap, but it's still half the price of a smaller hemingway, and it will be a daily user beside the agatha when i get it. :)

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
