Looking For A Dark Red Ink

Looking for a dark red ink, not really a Burgundy persay, but a rather dark red. I have taken a look at Noodler's Empire Red and Diamine Matador, but still not quite sure. I also like the Diamine Red Dragon. Any suggestions would be helpful! Thanks!

You might take a look at Private Reserve Fiesta Red which is a darker red. That's one of my favorite reds. I'm currently using Diamine Syrah, which is definitely a burgundy red.

Favorite pen/ink pairings: Pilot Custom 823 F with Noodler's El Lawrence, TWSBI 580 AL F with Noodler's Baltimore Canyon Blue, TWSBI 580 F with Noodler's Bad Blue Heron, Pilot Custom Heritage 92 F with Noodler's Lexington Gray, TWSBI Mini F with Noodler's Black diluted 1 part distilled water to 4 parts ink.

Try Diamine Oxblood or J. Herbin 1670 rouge hematite (still avail.) have both & red is my fav color... Herbin can be a little "picky" but worth it...

Franklin-Christoph, Italix, and Pilot pens are the best!
Iroshizuku, Diamine, and Waterman inks are my favorites!

Apica, Rhodia, and Clairefontaine make great paper!

+1 for Oxblood, be aware that Herbin 1670 was reformulated to take out the gold.

+1 Diamine Cult Pens deep dark Red and Syrah. My 1670 rouge Hemitite is a very bright red, with almost an orange glow on some papers rather than deep red.

Why limit yourself to just one red?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Here are a few I've been using. Diamine Wild Strawberry is a rich red that dries with a darker outline, great for giving your letters a little kick but it's a very wet ink so not so good for a dip pen. Diamine Ruby is a good strong dark red without any of the dried blood tones of Matador. I'd steer clear of Noodler's Dragon's Napalm if it's a dark red you're looking for as that one is very bright tomato.

Wouldn't it be great if Nakaya used TWSBI piston fillers instead of Platinum cartridge converters?

oooooh, thanks for posting that, Paul. I am looking for a dark orange and Apache Sunset looks like what I am looking for. It isn't dry is it?

I'm looking for a good burgundy too and had a sample of Noodler's Burgundy that I liked. Anyone have any experience with it?

No, the Apache Sunset isn't dry at all. It's a beautiful ink to write with, fantastic shading if you're using a broad nib.

Thank you. What is fade test and how does one donate to it?

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
