Dimensions Of Pens

Recommended Posts

If you have a ruler and/or a measuring tape near you I would appreciate some help with a little pen case project of mine. I only have two pens at the moment but I want my pen case to accommodate thicker or longer pens as well so I thought I would incorporate that into the design. I need some measurements of circumference or diameter of the thinnest part of the barrel and cap of your thickest pen and the length measurement of your longest pen.

The diameter of my thickest pen is 1cm but I don't know if that is large so I thought it would be a good learning experience to ask here.

Any help is much appreciated

The post above should not be regarded as the absolute and undeniable truth and facts as it may contain the garbled mutterings of an overworked, stressed and nonsensical student who may or may not be on the brink of insanity.
Please regard her with ten grains of salt and stay out of arms reach and at least ten metres away.

Much obliged,
Crazy Cat Lady

The Parker 51 is 12mm diameter.

Parker Duofold International 11.5mm

Duofold Centennial: 13.5mm

Onoto Magna Classic: 12.89mm

Stipula Etruria: widest part of barrel about 14mm

Delta Turchese: 15.2mm barrel, cap 17.2mm

Really narrow pens, like the Parker Vector have a 10mm diameter, but they are very small compared to many.

Can I suggest you trawl through the reviews and have a good look at the pens there for may more dimensions.

Regards,

Richard

Most sellers on the internet and eBay usually give dimensions of pens. You may find it useful for any pens you may contemplate buying.

They came as a boon, and a blessing to men,

Go to Richard Binder's site or pelikan.com and check out the dimensions for a Pelikan M1000. Does not get much larger for most regular / affordable pens. And if you add some safety margin you should be plenty fine. If planning with holding loops etc make them elastic and you should be fine.

Don't you mean the thickest part?

The thinnest part will mean that the pen won't fit into the slot because the pen is too wide for the slot.

Depending on your pens, you may have to use 2 different cases.

I have "slimlines" in one case and wider pens in another case, because the diameter difference is too much, and I would loose a lot of capacity for the slimlines. These guys have both wood and portable cases.

I have been messing about making boxes and case for a little while now and my own experience has shown there are two distinct sizes 18 mm and 21 mm that seem to cover the widest range of pens and 185 mm in length will cover most options.

I would love to see pictures of your cases as the progress.

Quoted dimensions don't always include the clip

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
