Standard International Cartridge Converter Doesn't Fit

I have the impression that standard international converter can be use on Kaigelu, Jinhao and Duke etc. I just try them, non of them fit into my standard International cartridge. The opening on the converter provided by Chinese pens seems larger than standard international.

Can someone confirm this?

Hi

I also have many Chinese pens from the likes of Jinhao, Duke, Picasso and kaigelu, Hero and can confirm that standard international cartridges and converters fit all of them fine.

Really? That was what I understand also. I do have pen like Kaigelu 316, Jinhao 601/X750, Duke D209/D2-1 and all the converter are interchangeable.

I have 2 Pelikan converters I tried on these Chinese pen and none of them fit. Something is wrong somewhere. I purchase 1 extra Pelikan converter for Chinese pen.

Maybe it's the Pelikan one, which brand were you guys using?

After trying Pelikan converter, I tried Waterman and again they are too small to fit into all my Chinese pens.

To confirm that, I put the Chinese converter in my Pelikan and Waterman it is so loose there is no friction and would not stay.

I am thinking because cartridges might have more flexibility in the plastic or the opening was make larger and since it pierce into the opening to create a hole it fit according to the part that pierce into it?

At least that is my findings.

It would seem the nipple on your pens is wider than standard. My experience echoes that of the others who have posted here. And more: I have used standard Schmidt converters in some of my Chinese pens such as Baoer, Jinhao, and no trouble fitting them. Cartridges, from the small no-names to Watermans, fit with no issues.

Have you tried to fit a Parker converter or cartridge? Those are designed for a wider nipple, and maybe you'll be lucky and that will fit your pens. The benefit of a Parker cartridge is that it carries a nice volume of ink...

I dunno but I have:

1 x Duke D209

1 x Duke D2-1

2 x Jinhao X750

1 x Jinhao 601

1 x Kaigelu 316

Each have their own converter.

Standard International Converter pens I have.

1 x Pelikan Classic P381 + 2 x Pelikan Converters

1 x Waterman Expert Mk I + Waterman Converter

I cleaned up a couple of model 602 pens and tried to put converters on them out and could not get them to fit. Very vexing since I used converters on them before. Turns out that the ones that I had taken off of the pens fit just fine. The converters that did not fit were from a bagful I had bought from a well regarded Chinese seller on eBay. There is definitely a difference in the size.

Don't you wish we could use our pens to write on the Fountain Pen Network Fora?

I had an interesting find in a package from China in the post yesterday. The pen in question was fitted with an international converter as expected with Chinese pens and the nipple on that converter was the standard international size so standard international cartridges also fitted fine.

Now to the interesting bit, also in the box with the pen where 2 cartridges, one black and one blue. Nothing odd in that I hear you all say as most do that, yes they do but the interesting thing about these two cartridges was that they where both 50% longer than standard international cartridges and only one had the standard international size nipple! the other one was much bigger! almost Parker size but not quite Parker size. I wonder if some Chinese makers are trying to introduce their own sized fitting and that's what the problem is the OP is having with his pen.

Yes that is right. I bought a Parker converter to be use on Hero 892 which has interchangeable parts with a Parker 45 and the converter is compatible.

The international converter suppose to be able to use on other Chinese pen do not fit. I have so many Chinese pen and 3 international converter and they all do not like each others. All other Chinese pen converter are interchangeable.

As of why international cartridges (not converter) fit on them I believe because it is piercing into it, it adjust accordingly able to expand the opening accordingly.

I also have a tip, instead of those flimsy spring agitator and take up precious space in converter, I replace them with 2.5mm ceramic bearings.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
