Moleskine Star Wars 2014 Planners

Does anybody know if these planners are fountain pen friendly? Been searching FPN but haven't found an answer on this particular item.

Read somewhere that unlike the standard moleskines the special editions have "better paper". Can somebody confirm this?

I really don't want to put down the money for this planner if I will not be able to use a FP with it.

I agree alc3216. I have the 2013 Star Wars Daily Planner and depending on the ink and nib, I get different results. It dows work great with fine nibs. For 2014 I plan on getting the Leuchtturm1917 Daily Planner. I have no experience with this planner but have seen reviews that they are FP friendly.

Good luck with your search.

Well, that says a lot about Moleskine. If you want to gamble with your paper AND your calendar sounds like an unsure bet.

The ARC paper at Staples is surprisingly good for a regular paper. You may want to hold out for their 40% off sale, if possible.

One of the prices you pay for enjoying a Molie-specific product or thematic design is the risk your fountain pen will be unusable. If you enjoy the theme and design of the Molie Star Wars products, I suggest you will be happier if you use a mechanical pencil. Even gel and rollerball inks can have terrible results on Molie paper stocks. The pencil is, in my opinion, the far superior agenda and diary tool anyway because you can easily and seamlessly edit your schedule and planning.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

I have the Moleskine Starwars Planner and I can only use it with Zebra Sarasa Gel Pen 0.7 (this is only available size in Turkey) and it barely handles a gel pen. Darker colors like purple are bleeding in some points.

Only extra fine and very very dry fountain pens can be used with it. Maybe...

Based on the info I've received from you and a little more searching Moleskine will not be my choice for a planner/ Will look elsewhere.

Thanks,

Research Leuchtturm products thoroughly here and on notebook blogs/forums. My experience was far less than satisfactory with the 2012 planner.

Besides paper quality and affinity for fountain pens with various inks and nibs, a planner or agenda must have a page layout that suits your time management needs or style. That was another failing of the Leuchtturm for me although I knew going into the experiment that I did not like the layout. Regardless of Leuch's clamis of ink-proofness, none of my Sheaffer pens were usable and I resorted easily to my Pentel mechanical pencils.

Thanks,

If you've not yet commited, you may like to look at the Hobonichi planner (English version). A6 size. Page a day. Uses FP-friendly Tomoe River paper (grid printed)

I looked it up on the internet. Very well thought out planner. Unfortunately way more than what I need. A weekly planner suits me better.

If I had a need for a daily calendar this one would be tops on my list.

Thanks

The Moleskine planner is well built and well designed. The Moleskine paper is typically indifferent to fountain pens and will bleed through with wetter or bolder pens. It's usable but not ideal. They come in many different sizes and options so you can find one to suit your needs.

Rhodia makes a nice planner with typical Rhodia paper but it has the opposite problem from the Moleskine: instead of bleedthrough, the ink sits on top of the page for a long time before it is absorbed. THis means when you make a quick entry and close the book, it smears into the opposite page, which is messy and can make the opposite page illegible.

But there is no bleedthrough!

I keep a small piece of blotting paper in all my notebooks and journals exactly for that reason. Tried, tested and cheap solution to smearing and blotching.

After much debating and looking up information on line I decided to give the Paperblanks planner a try. Maxi size (5.50 x 8.25) with the Black Moroccan cover.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
