Universal Converters + India = ?

Hi guys,

 

So, I was searching for universal converters for using with my Schneider Base and Waterman HD. ( Bought Lamy's separately coz I know it won't fit )

 

The only option I am getting is parker's converter. (http://www.esupply.in/products/parker-quink-ink-converter)

As far as my limited knowledge goes, parkers fit only auroras and then too play foul sometimes.

 

So, my question to my fellow FPNers is,where do I find the universal type in India ?

 

Also what type of converter will I be needing with Sheaffer NoNonsense and Pilot ? And where to buy them ?

Converters are hard to find in India. You can buy a cheap pen which comes with a converter, such as most Chinese pens and a few Indian brands. Another option is to use cartridges and refill them using a syringe. Good luck!

1. Any thoughts on which pens come with converters bundled ? Any links ?

2. Any idea where I can find a blunt tipped syringe ? I got a hypodermic one, but don't wanna impale myself..

Being in a similar situation, I buy my converters on-line. In the past I found some at Amazon, but because of packaging that's no longer worth it, it gets expensive. However, XFountainpens sells Schmidt converters (twist type) that fit most of my pens. You get them in sets of three.

Another source, especially for Pilot converters, could be Jetpens. But Pilot converters are very expensive.

Ended up ordering on cultpens.. cart value was 5 euro and shipment was 10 euro...

thankfully the converters will live a long life .

"Blunting" the needle of a syringe is simple, but delicate work. It is very easy to crush the needle into uselessness. If hypodermic syringes are readily available,(I don't know your laws.) obtain one with a large needle (20 gauge or larger). Carefully score around the circumference of the needle, with a metal-worker's file. Then, gently snap off the sharp tip. The danger is pinching the needle closed, if you did not score sufficiently deep. I suggest obtaining several, if your dexterity is as poor as mine.

 

The large diameter needles are used less for injecting, as they are for hypodermic extracting. Also, veterinarians use large gauge needles. Some online retailers sell syringes with blunted needles. The price is a bit dear, but they last for years. Personally, I use a surplus, medical syringe (unused, but past expiration date). There is great incentive NOT to impale oneself, and I have not done it in years.

Some pen stores which sells chinese pens will have spare Jinhao, Luoshi converters which fit well in many pens.

 

Flair Fantasy comes with a converter and costs only Rs.40 but the converter is difficult to use. Another brand is Dux. The pen costs only Rs. 20. The pen is nothing special but the nib is fantastic and it comes with a converter similar to the one in Flair.

Have you heard of Fountain Pen Revolution dot com? Kevin specializes in pens made in India and would be a good source of information on converters. Also, he sells ink syringes for $1.50 and silicone grease for $3.00 USD. Shipping on any order is only $3 and takes about 2 weeks. I use their Dilli flex nib and love how smoothly it writes for an inexpensive pen. He is very responsive to email inquires. -Good luck!
