Which Japanese Pen Company Do You Prefer And Why

So far my Japanese pen experience is limited to Pilot VP's but so far so good. I really love the little nibs on the VP. I've been really looking at Sailor pens lately and I've been thinking of a resin Falcon. Just saw a youtube video on the Pilot custom 92. There are so many good choices.

So to the question in the topic title: which Japanese pen company's products do you prefer and why?

Do you lean towards a single company or is it particular models that you like?

TIA,

Tony

I'm also a Pilot fan. I've a couple of the VP. In addition the MU-90 (did I get that model right?) which was a LE reissue of a model from some years back. All are super dependable for me and never seem to fail to start right up.

Platinum. Sailor's nibs were way, way too thin (MF writes like an XF). Pilot's nibs are at times, too soft. Platinum's pens work the best for me.

I like stiff thin nibs, though.

Platinum - the "cool" Japanese company.

They do classic so well but their modern is great too. Their nibs are great and seem to suit me; and that music nib.......yum.

Platinum is the one I know the least about. Which pens are the classic ones? I haven't seen much past the 3776 pens in the upper tier.

I'm considering Nakaya with Platinum and Namiki with Pilot.

Hi,

Some of my favorite nibs are the Pilot fine nibs. I also really like their extra-fines. Pilot nibs are often a bit softer and not as stiff. I also really like the way my Nakaya pens feel on the paper, they have very stiff and very fine nibs, and they write really well. I also like Sailor pens a lot, but not everyone likes their character. They have a different way of grinding their nibs.

I choose Pilot, because they know what they`re doing and their prices are fair....maybe too fair. Low prices for quality pens spoil most people(custom 74, 78G).

The other two companies are good as well, but not that good- at least Sailor 1911 was pretty and the quality of the materials was good, but unimpressive and impractical during actual writing(dry, very small sweet spot).

As for Platinum, it seems that the overall build quality doesn`t match that of Pilot. I like their nibs, though.

For me, Pilot/Namiki love the VPs and my new Justus 95 is my current favorite writer.

My favorite is Nakaya -- which is not to say that the others are not great (Japanese or otherwise).

I just love, for instance, the size and shape and finishes of the Piccolo, and the ruthenium-plated F nib is my favorite favorite.

I prefer Pilot for daily notetaking and Sailor's specialized nibs for handwriting practice

Sailor for the nibs. I love the shape of the ProGear line. However, I dislike the 1911 round shape.

If Sailor didn't make the ProGear, I would gravitate toward the Pilot Custom 92

The Pilot over Sailor. I have not tried Platinum pens.

The Pilot nibs produce a superior writing experience due to the large forgiveness they offer. My forgiveness I mean large sweet spots and is very smooth.

Pilot.

I own pens from all of the big three. They're all great writers (except for one where I'm waiting for a replacement nib) although they feel different. The Platinum (only brand where I only have one) probably is the nicest writer. However, I prefer Pilots designs. Of the pens that are on the top of my to-buy list, one is from Shaeffer, one from Pelikan, one from Platinum, and seven from Pilot.

I like nibs and pens from all three. The Pilot soft fine is one of my favourite nibs. I also like Sailor's medium-- though Sailors tend to have a pronounced "foot" or flat spot on their tipping material. If this foot corresponds to your writing angle, then you will find it one of the smoothest writing nibs ever. If not....

Platinum nibs are also great. The 3775 nibs are a steal.
