Forge De Laguiole Montblanc Knife

Filipson

Recommended Posts

There seem to be a lot of FPN members who have the MB L'Aubrac fountain pen. But I wonder who has purchased the matching knife by Forge de Laguiole? If anyone has found a vendor who carries this (esp. in the USA), please share!

I bet it's a bit scratchy to write with. B)

Haha!!! Think EEF needlepoint nib paired with a Visconti inkwell. :). It's just for show b/c they're so nicely paired.

No, you have to buy the knife separately if you want it. It only costs a fraction of the pen though.

I was thinking I should get the knife for my boyfriend as he likes such things. A pen store around here carries a small range of Laguilé knives and they also had the Montblanc edition. I fell in love with an olive wood and frosted steel edition instead and haven't regretted it. Neither has my boyfriend. ;)

Hmm, I didn't know about these knives as I have no interest in the pen itself, but now this has me thinking...

They look really nice!

I have no use for another pocket knife at all, maybe I can come up with something to justify buying one..

Have you seen them on offer somewhere?

From the photo the OP used, they look like the standard Laguiole design, just with the usual Shepherd's Cross changed to a ring of finishing nails. Are there other changes that I am missing? I'd also be interested to see what the mark-up is for this special edition.

Yes, it's for sale at the link KJY posted:

It seems to be the standard design, but I do like that, and don't have one yet. The main thing about the knife besides the finishing motif, is that it's made in the same style (from the same wood) as the MB I think. Price point is set around €165, which probably makes it around the $200 mark for the US.

Found some additional info of the pen and the knife:

The big difference between their standard collection and this one of MontBlanc is the material that is used.

I couldn't find some standard knifes made of grenadille or ebony wood.

Thanks for another source KJY, are you also thinking about one?

I found something interesting btw:

Replacing the Shepherd's Cross doesn't seem to be done especially for MB.
Although I must say, I'm glad they didn't do a Damascus blade on the MB one, I think it looks rather bad :o

This looks waaaay better:

I like true craftmanship collectibles.

Tempted but I don't need one.

Do you want to organise a groupbuy? :lticaptd:

Hehe, I asked because it seemed you kept on doing some research :)

But... if we get 12 people to order one from the Netherlands, we'll reach the €1600 mark for free shipping :lticaptd:

I'm still in doubt, it's like you say; tempted, but don't need one... I'm not into knife collecting either, but on the other side, it's something that looks like fun to play with... (boys will be boys )

Beautiful knives.

When I was younger, and the dollar strong, I was too dumb to buy it, in it wasn't a Remington, or Buck.

It is an old fashioned knife, made the old fashioned way; a grand product of France.

If you are going to have 6 or 8 pocket knives, one of them should be part of your collection. It is a two handed pocket knife; that has been doing it's job for the last 125-150 years. If you treat it with respect in handling, should be something you can give to the selected grandchild.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
