So, I filled up a TWSBI 540 smoke with R&K Scabiosa and another with Diamine Bilberry. Both pens were "smoke" with Broad nibs, both pens had been writing identically before I filled with the newest colors. See this post for my musings on ink flow. When I went to find my sheets with Scabiosa, I found I had not written a full page, so I didn't have any scans to post.

 

Having now used a full fill, I can tell you that I like the ink more today, than when I first used it.

 

So, here are my thoughts and my torture test.

Others asked me about comparing this ink to Sailor / Kobo Tanum Purple. The colors (to me) really are different. The Scabiosa is more yellow and the Sailor is more gray.

These are great samples! thanks for your whole series.

 

Your scabiosa looks like my scabiosa--a dusty purple. I like it, though I find I use it less often because it is a tad light for the type of writing I do.

You might like the Kobe ink, the purple is pretty and it's darker. It's also not as "needy" as an iron gall.

I love Scabiosa and your wonderful inventive review is a real treat. If I want a colour that's sort-of similar but not iron-gall, for whatever reason, I tend to use Diamine Amazing Amethyst.

I agree that the Kobe ink seems appealing, though my problem is that the dusty shading of scabiosa is what attracts me. To darken it would be to lose what draws me in. The problem is that my writing environment is formal, and so inks that I use regularly fit the environment, not so much my attractions.

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

      There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

      Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

      Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
