Any size, as long as Mike Matsuyama has reworked it to a xf !

I like them all, although I have been gravitating towards a Medium after using nothing but Fines. I have two Broads, my Dumas and Hemingway, that I need to used a bit more often. Still on the hunt for a BB 149

In order to appreciate the sweet, you must truly taste the bitter....

I enjoy everything from XF to BB depending on the stationery and the occasion. Different tools for different jobs.

Oh well said! I wish I could use my BB everyday but B is more utilitarian for me

XF for work, but otherwise a B for messing around.

Hi

Are Montblanc Nibs hand finished, I have two mediums that are very different to each other. One is the same regardless of nib direction and the other is much wider going sideways than up and down. Mind it is does make writing with it quite interesting because its the reverse of what you get with a flex nib

Yes, so some variation is expected. A few of my mediums are quite like my fine nibs.

I want to purchase a MB limited edition, but I'm not sure whether to buy a Fine or Medium nib. They're almost the same. I write on the small side. So I'm tending to go with the Fine nib. Thoughts would be appreciated by those who use both. Thanks!

Visconti Homo Sapiens Lava (F), Visconti Crystal Demonstrator (F), Visconti Metropolis Gun Metal (M), MB PoA Ludovico Sforza (F), Lamy 2K (XF), Pelikan M205 (M).

^extra fine?

Most limited editions are 146 nib based, so try to visit a boutique to try their 146 tester set.

Hi,

Both of my modern purple MB pens that I had had fine nibs, and that's usually my go-to size for modern MB pens. There is a lot of variation though. My second one was a lot broader than my first one.

I would love to get my hands on a BB nib. I have what was most likely an M nib stubbed to about a .9 mm, and I find that too narrow. I also have an OB but switching to that from my TWSBI 1.1 stubby is a bit difficult at times.

I like the Montblanc EF as they exhibit some stubbish line variation with a slight arabic character where the the side stroke is a little broader than the vertical stroke. So all my writing with the EF nib yields a little more character than a regular round nib. My EF 145 is on loan to a friend, so I can't provide a sample right now.

I was lucky enough to own a tester box not that long ago and did enjoy all nib widths. The OM was probably the one that I would settle for but found the special nib (Kugel ?) very easy to get along with

I personally prefer a fine nib for writing work documents or college work, mainly because college ruled paper only has a certain amount of space. However, I do prefer a flexible nib. I had a 14C 149 that had a medium super flexible nib that wrote as smooth as butter and had so much line variation that I loved but I needed cash so bad I sold it for 600 on the bay :crybaby:

My first Montblanc arrived today, it is a Meisterstück 146 with an OM nib - I love how it writes, but I am surprised how broad it is! Another positive surprise was how much line variation there is.

Here is a comparison with Lamy M and B on a Lamy Studio (and then the MB again):

Here a bit bigger:

Well, this gives me an excuse to look for another MB, this time with F or even EF nib for my daily needs.

Look at my lovely MB nib :-)

I usually use a Mb F nib, although I do have one BB nib in a 149 that I bought on ebay.

Their M nibs are always a bit thicker than I would prefer.
