Source For Carene Replacement Nib?

Hello --

I have a Waterman Carene with a medium nib. I received this pen as a gift several years ago, and have only been it day-to-day for about a year. I've gradually come to realize that the medium nib is too wide for me, especially since I tend to push hard on the pen when writing.

I understand that Waterman's nib-exchange program isn't available to me since it's not brand new, so I asked them what it would cost to buy a fine nib from them, and was quoted $130. I'm wondering if anyone has any sources for replacement nibs that would be less costly than this; I know that Pen Seller of France had them on eBay/Amazon but all those listings seem to have disappeared. Are there other vendors, internet or otherwise, that carry such a thing?

Many thanks,

Ted

My exchange of nib came from Pen Seller From France via amazon.com earlier this year. I was unsuccessful in finding a replacement nib/section outside of that despite an extensive search. My carene came with a medium nib and it felt like a magic marker. I purchased an EF nib and it's honestly still wider than I prefer though smooth as anything. A quick Google returned this site which you might want to give a shot. Good luck finding a replacement.

Pen Seller From France is now on Amazon. I've bought happily from him. Pilotfish shows up on eBay regularly. No personal knowledge. Our own classifieds have 'em occasionally.

Carene nibs have increased in price. One ebayer has them listed at £95.

Considering this sold yesterday. I did not ask its nib size but I suspect it was Medium which is the std nib.

Sections do appear on ebay but you have to be patient and may have a battle on when it appears.

The Online Pen Co sells sections for £77 (they were £55 only 6 months ago cos I toyed with a stub), yet they only charge £115 for a complete pen delivered in the UK. I have just realised how cheap this is for the Carene. Now £115 with a stub would be nice but there is no option for the stub. After I emailed them they amended their web site to include the stub option. Oh dear a Red/Silver with Sub nib......£115.....oh no.

Waterman charge £50 for a cap or barrel alone so their prices are rather steep. But you can't make one for that.

Two options to consider,

1. Buy at $130 and sell your fine for $50-$60 or maybe more.

2. Buy a complete pen (with M nib and same hardware colour), make sure the M nib works OK then swap nibs and relist the pen. You may do this at very little loss in cost and you never know you might make money.

It's not an FP but this still makes me chuckle... :lticaptd:

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
