Hi, I'm a newbie to this forum. I'm looking a multi pen call Rotring 600 Trio made in Germany and It has red, blue pen and a pencil. I believe it was made in the 80's and will preferer all complete working and mint or good condition.

By the way, what is the main difference 80's rOtring 600, 600G, Newton? I mean their price or function?

Thanks you.

Hi,

This might help here It's a really good read, and you can find there that the Newton and 600 are actually quite different pens. Good luck in your search!

hey thanks for the reply. I wonder Which of these Rotring trio pen were 1st released? Knurled grip or Non Knurled grip?

I assume
Knurled grip = Rotring 600 Trio
Non Knurled grip = Rotring 600 Newton Trio.

Correct me if I'm wrong here. I remember the Rotring trio 1st release around in year 1987-1988. But I don't know which came first. Any expert here can tell? Thanks

Did someone say my name? :-)

Rotring 600 Trio. believe it was made in the 80's and will preferer all complete working and mint or good condition.

Judging by the title of your post, you are indeed looking for a Rotring Newton Trio Lava. It is either a 600 or a Newton, a 600 Newton does not exist, even though i've seen Newtons wrongly advertised as such.

The Lava Finish was only available for the Newton starting 1998. The latest advertised price was 49€ back in 2003 before it seized production.

To be honest with you: This is gonna be tough. I've seen a lot of Rotring 600 Trio (silver and black) change hands over the last years for around 200-300€, depending on condition. I've seen Newton Trios (silver and black) for 150-200€. But I've never seen (apart from the brochure) a Rotring Newton Trio Lava in person - not a good sign for a self proclaimed Rotring fanatic. So I have no frame of reference for price for the Lava variant. Should I ever have the chance to buy one - I will drop you a message.

By the way, what is the main difference 80's rOtring 600, 600G, Newton? I mean their price or function?

As already mentioned, my visual guide that was linked a few posts ago is a good start. Functionally wise there is close to no difference, with the exception of the 600 Gold Mechanical Pencil and Ballpoint where the tip is retractable in the gold variant and non-retractable in the standard version. Lava was only avaible as option for the Newton. The biggest difference is material and tactile feedback. The 600 is quite a hefty piece of pure metal (except for the feed and a tiny little piece inside the cap). The Newton is a little bit like "female" version - rounded edges, smoother curves, mirror polished parts and a little bit smaller and lighter then the 600. The price is hard to compare, the 600 is around 4 times the original price now, the Newton is around 2-3 times.

And not to forget: This is too called a Rotring Newton. But thats only to profit of the name, it has nothing to do with the old ones, its cheap plastic all around and I try to forget it exists, so I don't have much information about it. It is a horrible pen produced by Newell after they bought/brought in Rotring from Sanford. Just ignore it. Please.

I've got your message...

let's ignore the rotring 600 mech pencil. So the standard rotring 600 ballpoint non retractable and only the rotring 600 gold can retractable? if not mistaken, I saw detail is that standard rotring 600 is click to retract the ballpoint while rotring 600 gold is twist to retract it. Correct me if i'm wrong

Thanks, that's why i'm looking for the vintage.

no problem.

I should have written it to be more precise. The Rotring 600 Ballpoint has a "click to retract" mechanism for the tip of the ballpoint itself and the gold version has an additional "twist to retract" to retract the small tube at the tip of the pen where the ballpoint comes out. Pretty much useless, but a difference none the less. But no we stop talking about the rotring 600 gold ballpoint, because its the rarest of them all, I dare to say its even more rare then the lava trio, because the gold ballpoint isnt even listed in the catalogue.

Thanks. Wow not even listed in catalogue. this drive me insane..... so which mean this is a very rare. But price is sky high like a vintage 600 trio. Oh yeah the gold version got 1 series?

Sorry, but I am not sure what you meant to say by that. There is a Gold Version of the "second" version, the Newton if you mean that.

I saw this http://www.scribd.com/doc/53576748/Rotring-600-Series-Range-8-11-9 . 1 series is the very first model and most is made in Germany I guess. Thanks

I had to google an alternative site to read the whole file and when I finally read it ... To say it kindly: This whole thing presents itself as facts but is at best factually incorrect in big parts, at worst simply made up and fabricated nonsense. From the description it sounds like he listed the plastic 300 and 500 pencils as series 4 and 5. He lists "no inscription" as series 3, but no inscription simply means it was made for merchandise, thats why almost all pens by Rotring can be seen with and without inscription. He completely misses the gold/black variant ...

I could go on for hours. Maybe when I'm in a particularly good moot I will write a new spreadsheet with the correct information.

Until then please ignore this spreadsheet.

Especially the part at the end about swapping nibs - this is just plain wrong. You will completely destroy your pen if you do what he is telling you to do. It will not work!

Thanks. I think any of us would want to know the truth. I think this is one of great contribution if you would write a proper Rotring 600 information base on the fact and truth to the Rotring 600 Series. I think Rotring 600 is one of the greatest pen on earth by craftsmanship. Due to those false information could ruin the greatest pen and being disrespect to the maker of the pen. I will treat the spreadsheet as rumor and nothing more. I rather know the truth than being an ignorant. Thanks...

added I'm getting headache with these.... 600 Trio
