Pelikan Brilliant Red Ink-Possible Contamination?

hello everyone! I am encountering a problem with my pelikan brilliant red ink..i see some white debris floating around inside the ink which sediment at the bottom after about an hour of stagnation. i am not sure whether it is some pigment issue or is it really contaminated. i bought the ink about 4-5 months ago and have used it once. any ideas?

I had a 30 ml bottle of this ink and it had the crud you describe. Almost identical to what I see in our photo. I also checked a few bottles at a store and all the bottles had similar stuff. I was quite unhappy with the color and the dryness of this anyway, so crud or no crud, I don't see myself buying another bottle. But FWIW, I filled a few eyedropper pens with this ink while I used it. I didn't have clogging or other problems.

Ok, then i guess i will have to do with it. and i agree with you upon the quality of the ink. This is my 1st and last bottle too. It is bad indeed, it is too light in colour and shades ugly too. I like the camlin's "scarlet red" better..which inks do you use regularly?

Among the reds, my everyday ink is Sheaffer Skrip. I also use Bril Red which I've darkened with a bit of Bril Black in the bottle.

Mine had the same stuff in it. I assumed it was just part of the ink. I can't comment on whether it causes problems in pens since I detested the color (carrot orange, not red anything) enough that I threw it out.

Me too, I didn't like the orange tones in the colour just dumped it.

 

Happy using Diamine Red Dragon.

My Pelikan Red looks okay, no debris, and it's just as old (or young). Maybe a batch thing.

Since a lot of the Brilliant Red bottles seem to have some issues, I don't carry it in my shop, but in my experience, that seems to be fairly common. I think it has to do with the dye used. I think the ink itself has only one dye base that I suspect is based on allura red based on my tests, and Diamine orange, which I suspect contains allura red as well, seems to have a small amount of stuff on the bottom of a few bottles, but it doesn't seem as bad as in Pelikan Brilliant Red.
