What Size Cartridge For A Waterman C/f

Hi Guys

Anyone know what the correct size cartridge the waterman C/F takes.

Large Size Standard are too long and their International size does fit but is very short, do they do a size in-between these two.

Thanks

Paul

As far as I know (two C/F Waterman fountain pens are in my collection), these pens use specific and thinner C/F cartridges or C/F converters, NOT THE STANDARD Waterman (or, for this matter, so called "international", used by a lot of brands). The diameter of section nipple and therefore the diameter of the connecting opening in the cartridge or converter are exclusive, not compatible with any other diameter. The C/F system (in my cartridge boxes it is written "C/F and Watermina") is also shorter than International.

So my advice is: look for original parts (there you have the internet), then fill them with your ink of preference.

Hope this helps!

I've read in a number of postings that International Standard carts can be "made" to fit the C/F, but it seems quite risky. There is also a Waterman converter that fits the C/F, which is occasionally available on Ebay. Old cartridges come up on Ebay, too, and can be syringe filled.

One of my (many) delayed projects is to make a converter, using some old cartridges as a guide. Some day...

Thanks for the replies.

The Waterman International ones do fit as I have just put one in this morning, it was tight but it did go in.

I will keep my eye out for some originals then and re fill them as suggested.

Thanks

Paul

My understanding is that the C/F converters can still be purchased from the service center.

You may want to send a message to OldGriz (or search for his posts.) IIRC, he has posed the contact information.

Don't feel bad. I'm old; I'm meh about most things.

I've found with the international cartridge that if you twist it as for tightening (whether installing or removing, to avoid accidental disassembly), it works reasonably easily and without too much terror. I'd thing that if one made a habit of it and used one cartridge every time, the section's collar would eventually abrade the soft plastic and it would get easier with each repetition... until the mouth of the cartridge failed, anyway.

The converters are nice, but they really don't hold much, and they seduce one into dipping the decorated section into ink, which may hasten or enhance the corrosion one so typically finds there.

JML, The Pen Seller From France often has the converters too. I've bought several from him over the years.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have three Waterman C/C pens... Laureat, Maestro and Exclusive. Just Waterman Exclusive needs thinner cartridges. The solution??? I've thinned a CENTROPEN cartridge (the thinest I have) routing it in a lathe. Now I have a "waterman standard" I fill with my favourite inks and a syringe...

Look at my horse, my horse is amazing!!!

I think you may be getting confused, the op is ref'ing C/F pens and their cartridges, but I have replied to your post on the Exclusive aspect.

The Exclusive takes Waterman standard International long, short and converters. Do you mean Exclusive or are you getting mixed with names.

Or am I getting confused.

think out loud...your FP would not by any chance have a RB barrel....or what was an RB has had a FP section fitted. I have not had chance to try this comination to see if it would or would not work. My thoughts are the RB barrel may be slightly narrower inside to support the filler.

Well... I don't know about the barrel origin, but when I try to use a standard intl cartridge, the base don't pass the thread of the barrel. That's why I've routed a cartridge base and now the thing works.

I don't have this issue with Laureat and Maestro...

There is a problem with the barrel. Can you post pictures of the pen.

Continuing the not-C/F line for a moment: I had a rather unhappy moment last week with my Executive (which is VERY SIMILAR to the Exclusive, of course, in both appearance and age), having loaded an old Diamine cartridge with some ink from a bottle, and discovering only then that the base of the cartridge was slightly too wide to go down the barrel. The brass insert in the Phileas does a similar dirty trick; the Waterman cartridges are marginally thinner than the international standard, it seems.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
