Yellow Or Orange Ink For Everyday Writing

EDIT: Added a postscript

Okay, I just realized that I actually have a thing for yellow, when I'm no longer in the mood for the usual subtle shades of blue, black, blue/black, and green I use so often. I'm currently looking for a nice, relaxed yellow (or orange) ink that makes a statement, yet still remains legible on brighter paper.

I'm alright with it not being a "pure" ink, so long as it's warmly-toned (i.e. it leans a bit towards orange), so that automatically precludes the like of the admittedly beautiful Apache Sunset ink; if the ink has shading, then the lightest part ought to still be readily visible on, say, the ultrawhite Clairefontaine paper.Sadly, Noodler's inks aren't readily available here in the Philippines, and I'm at odds with ordering things online.

Thanks in advance, and cheers!

P.S.

I'm also OK with recipes making use of easily available (for me) inks (e.g. Lamy, Sheaffer, Parker, Sailor, j. herbin, and... I'm not sure what other inks are available here, really :/ ).

Can you get Iroshizuku inks? If so, either Yu-Yake or Fuyu-Gaki would probably work for you.

If you haven't seen it, check out Goulet Pens' web site. You can sort all the ink they carry by color. Hopefully you can find a color you like that is available to you.

I have no trouble with Herbin's Orange Indien (although I'm mostly using Apache myself lately). Their Ambre looks beautiful too. Sailor Apricot was also something I was considering and it has gotten great reviews.

Diamine Pumpkin is one of my very favorite inks. It's not a brown-orange as the name would imply - it's definitely ORANGE! There are others with great shading properties - Noodler's Habanero is nice (seems a bit wet to me, but that may be the pen/paper I've been using).

I'm also loving Private Reserve Buttercup these days. It's a yellow that has a bit of orange in it - making it show as a bright lovely color that isn't too light on the page.

I'll put a vote in for J. Herbin's Ambre de Birmanie, a gorgeous color someone described as a Tuscan sunset. It's dark enough to read easily and shades beautifully. For something more on the orange side, there's Sailor Apricot. Diamine Sunshine Yellow is dark enough to read and a very happy ink. I've not tried it yet, but the new Pelikan Edelstein Amber looks like something you might consider, too. Good luck!

If you are using orange inks in a hot climate, make sure the pen doesn't have a cap with a large safety breather hole or you will see "orange crud" in the feed and nib. It is harmless and is caused by the ink evaporating. It can just be wiped off.

De Atramentis Gold and Gandhi are good choices. +1 for Sailor Apricot.

I live in the Philippines; when it's not raining cats and dogs, it's shrouded in a humid and pervasive heat. I'll definitely take your warning to heart, good sir! :))

Anyway, much to my dismay, De Atramentis, Private Reserve, Diamine, and (most regrettably) Iroshizuku inks aren't readily available here, at least not that I know of. I still thought to take a look at the inks recommended though, much to my regret. They were all really great inks, and I hate their not having retailers here >.<;;

I'm leaning a bit towards j. herbin's Amber de Birmanie and Orange Indien. I still wish any of the four above-mentioned brands sold inks locally, though, especially Iroshizuku. Bah, forget it, I'll just take up globe trotting some day :))

Just checked out the link, and ended up spending half an hour reading up on other things (awesome site!), haha. Hmm, Sailor looks to be another great alternative, but... bah, looking at that scan of Diamine Punpkin, I'm really tempted to lift my self-imposed restriction of not ordering anything online; it looks great! A bit darker than what I was originally after, but that doesn't change the fact that it really is what I would call a perfect orange ink.

Orange is definitely not in my 'pallette' however I ordered samples of Pumpkin and Fu Yu Gaki, just to see.

I ended up buying Pumpkin and now it is the default ink for a Bexley Poseidon with a nice B stub nib. I can't believe I actually have a pen in the rotation that is typically filled with orange ink.

Thank you for the compliment on the blog - I love it - as I have no time to spend actively promoting it, you may be the only person to see it this week. Haha.

Sailor Apricot is nice - not as bold, but some shading.

I know the Goulets will ship overseas, but I also know it's $$ to do so. Suggest ordering a bunch of things if you decide to go that route - the first pound is usually the most expensive.

Akkerman Orange is really amazing.

You need to buy several bottles to justify the shipping cost, but the ink is very pretty and bottle is something special.

Mrs. Bookman uses Diamine Orange in her orange Lamy Safari every day on the job for notes to herself. This has been going on for almost four years. She has never changed inks.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
