Pen Stores In Philadelphia?

Recommended Posts

I'm moving to Philly in a few months and was wondering, are there any recommended pen stores in Philadelphia? I saw some older posts mentioning Holt's as a decent place but is there anything else?

I will be sure to drop by the Philly Pen Show next year as well. Thanks!

Paradise Pens has a nice shop at the suburban King of Prussia Mall. Good selections, but don't expect any great bargains. Most of their pricing is set at factory recommendations.

You might want to join the Philadelphia Pen Collectors group. Here is contact:

Its a pretty informal (and friendly) bunch, we meet about twice a year and also staff a table at the annual Philly Pen show in January.

Will check it out sometime though I'll probably be mostly window-shopping :)

There aren't many FP stores that come to mind. Best bet for face to face pen acquisition is the pen show.

Holt's Cigars at 15th & Walnut Streets. Probably the best place in Philly to get FPs and ink in person. Modest selection of pens. Sales, when they occur, are great.

There is a stationery store (The Papery at 3rd & Arch Streets) that offer fountain pens (Lamy Safari and Acme) but the staff isn't knowledgeable. They don't know about converters or conversion kits. Also no ink.

Esterbrook J (3), Hero 395 (2), Hero 616, Clipper Piston Filler (4), Lamy Safari (10), Markant 130, Ahab, Parker Parkette (3), Parker Vacumatic, Pilot 78G (2), Pilot Plumix (2), Platinum Preppy, Salz Bros Black and White, Waterman Ideal, Waterman Laureat (5), Waterman Kultur

Art in the Age at 3rd and Arch has some Kaweco pens and some Life stationery as well as Field Notes.

Omoi down at 16th and Pine also carries Kaweco and has a bunch of Japanese paper.

Paper on Pine which is on 13th also has some Lamy Safaris...

Does anyone know how often Holt will have sales on their pens? Looking at posts from a few years ago, it seems like Holts does amazing deals when they are clearing inventory.

Current Wishlist:

Visconti, Visconti, and...more Visconti! (And some ST Duponts too). (Ok fine, getting on the Omas and Montblanc trains now too. Toot toot.) (And maybe on the Montegrappa one too, but only for the Miyas.)

I have made two trips to Holt's this past year. They have a nice enough selection of new pens but I've never seen a sale. I asked about sales and kind of got a vague "sometimes." Way too overpriced on any other day. You'll pay MSRP in my experience. Still, nice to actually be able to touch a pen before buying.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
