"must Have" Pens

Edwaroth

Recommended Posts

Forgive me if this has been done before. I would like to compile a list of you consider to be absolutely "must have" pens. If all who participate would be good enough to list no more than five of what you would consider to be the all time "must have" pens, I would greatly appreciate it. I am looking for: the sought after, the timeless, the collectible, the iconic, the everyday user, the reliable...you know, the must haves.

Thanks, in advance!

Edward

I agree with the first three. Replace the last two with:

LAMY 2K

Pelikan 800/5

Lamy Safari (cheap reliable and groovy looking)

Pilot Prera (FANTASTIC nibs/great price)

Pelikan (of your choice) (classic pens)

Pilot VP (cuz they're "clicky"!)

Lamy 2K (Great everyday pack around writer)

 1.
 2. Noodlers pen (any of them). These aren't high end pens, and they are not the greatest pens around. However as you need to fiddle and fix them, they get people thinking more about how FOuntain Pens work and how they can be used. It is the perfect pen for learning!
 3. Lamy Studio/Al-Star. The perfect knock around pen. Durable, easy to use, and cheap. Good as a starter pen or simply to take with you. And they write really well!
 4. Lamy 2000. A classic pen. Perfect for every day writing and long writing sessions. It's fairly light and is very comfortable to hold. Takes a fair amount of mistreatment as well!
 5. Kaweco Sport. The perfect travel pen. Small, light, but becomes a full size pen when posted. Nibs are fairly good, and ink capacity is good (option to carry short carts, or convert to an Eyedropper)
 6. MontBlanc. I personally think everyone needs one. I aim to get one some day ;)

Currently collection:Lamy Safari's x5, Lamy Al Star's x3, Lamy Studio's x2, A Lamy 2000, Kaweco Sports/AL Sports x7, Noodlers pens (Konrad and Ahab) x10, Noodlers Konrad Ebonite x2, Hero 616 x10, Reform 1745 x10, Sailor 1911m x2, Sailor 1911 Realo x3, Sailor Pro Gear Realo x2, Sailor Pro Gear Imperial Black, Sailor 1911 Sterling Silver, Visconti Opera Club Cherry Juice (M Dreamtouch Nib), Visconti Opera Elements x3 (Amber and Black with M Dreamtouch Nib, Blue with M Gold Nib), Visconti Homo Sapiens Steel Age Maxi, Visconti Homo Sapiens Bronze Age, Montblanc 146 Le Grande... Plus I am sure I have forgotten some.

Well, it's all preference AFAIC, but my five are:

Delta Dolce Vita oversize

Pelikan M1000

MB 149

Omas 360

Conway Stewart Churchill

I wouldn't mind an Astoria either.

KOP and 149 are pretty similar. But I like your call on the TWSBI.

I am pleasantly surprised by the frequent mention of the Visconti Homo Sapiens! I did not know that it had made such an impression.

Let me add my two, er...five, bits:

Aurora 88

Sailor 1911

Visconti Van Gogh

Parker Vacumatic

Pelikan 400

Some less expensive versions than some of the above, though I like the selections other people have made.

Erick

Using right now:

Jinhao 9019 "F" nib running Birmingham Firebox

Sheaffer Legacy 2025 "M" nib running Kuretake Shikon

Radius 1934 Settimo "F" nib running Pelikan Olivine

Majohn 140 "M" nib running Lamy Dark Lilac

Yeah, sure, by all means, let's do this every other week! Because, you know, it's much more fun compiling all the data from different threads instead of only one. Actually, let's forget about the old threads. I mean... in this ever changing world, who can tell what new and exciting pens that make the top-5-must-have-list there will be in the future, I mean, like in 10 days from now!

If you really had an interest in compiling such a list, why wouldn't you look if there already is one? Maybe this is just me not having head my morning coffee yet, but seriously, I really don't understand why you started a new thread.
