Obviously it will come down to what feels best to you but I have always found the 800, and 1000 too back heavy for long use. To me the 600 and 400 series is much more comfortable. For me, a fine nib is best. Remember, Pelikan nib are pretty broad.

Which Pelikan would be better for everyday writing? Which nib would be a better choice? Many thanks for your assistance.

Tell us what you like....and maybe we can advise you better

What pens do you already have....and what do you like about them?

Otherwise, it's what we like....not what you want.. :hmm1:

Personally, I prefer F nibs with Pelikan. Its Fs are rather wide if you compare them with Japanese nibs, however.

I never saw much difference between the Pelikan F and M...so I went with an EF for my m805 and have been very happy. As for 600 vs 800 you need to hold both. I personally didn't notice much difference between m200 and m600...m800 was the sweet spot for me (though I'd love an m1000 as well!)

Cheers,

NM

M600 is very light, M800 is about 70% heavier. Figure out which you prefer.

Nib sizes are personal choices. For me, nothing smaller than M for everyday use, but you may prefer something finer.

For me the M1000 so given your choice I would go with the M800 which I currently have inked and love. There does seem to be a weight break in the Pelikan line where the 800/1000 seem heavier or more substantial than the 600 down the line. As to line width... Look on nibs.com for a nice chart comparing nib widths for various pens. If you have to write small with your EDC pen then I would suggest F (or smaller) otherwise M would work, but be aware, as others have said, Pelikans are very wide compared to Japanese nib widths.

Personal preference, of course, so likely not applicable, but I think my M800 with a medium Pelikan nib is everyday writing heaven for me. I don't think the nib is too broad at all. That said, I've got my eye on an M400 with a Binder EF nib because, honestly, I haven't tried anything other than my M800 with a medium (well, my Cross Century II, but that's been somewhat relegated to my everyday desk pen at work). I've come to realize that I just need to try everything myself to see how it works out. This is, of course, logical evaluation and not simply a justification for buying every pen in the known universe.

Y'all are very kind with your offers to help. It's like this: I write approximately 5 pages per day on the largest Rhodia pad. Mont Blanc Le Grande #146 with M nib is the one I like best. I like it best because I forget about it whilst writing. Mont Blanc Diplomate #149 with F nib has a tick too much girth. Pelikan M200 nice but too small & light for my liking. There is nothing wrong with any of these pens & I can happily use them the rest of the way out. Just want another pen & it will be a larger Pelikan than the one I have.

I prefer the M800, but it is not a suitable pen for daily use to me, that's how my mileage varies.

Pelikans flow a little more per nib size than the competition.

Hi

In hindsight I think my reply was a little 'short' and it may have sounded 'agressive'....honestly, this was not my intention.

I too was looking at a Pelikan 600 a few years ago... (the prices were a lot lower then  But, I didn't buy :crybaby:

From your reply, I think the M800 is your best choice....I think you will find the M600 a little on the small side...

I don't think (from what I have read here that you will notice much of a difference between the Fine and the Medium nib...but personally, I would go with the Fine...you may want to buy from a dealer that offers a nib swop if things don't work out....

Your preference in pens and nibs sounds very similar to my own....if only I had the funds :crybaby:

I'm intrigued as to why some members believe the M800 is not suitable as a daily user ???

Is it too heavy? Too large ? Back heavy?

The 600 is a little small for me. I prefer the 800 size and weight. Having said that I use two Pelikan 600 size pens frequently - Sahara and Niagara Falls. They are just too beautiful to not use.

Is it too heavy? Too large ? Back heavy?

The pen is stiff in body and nib, there is no tapering to it in comparison to pens I prefer, it is too thin for its weight...

It's a great pen, personally I just don't like using it compared to others of similar or more cost.

Personally, I find M800 beautiful as a daily writer, when it is used un-posted. However, I always post my pens as I'm afraid of losing the cap, which then made it back heavy. So it's M600 for me.

However, tastes changed over time. Initially, I thought that the M2xx and M4xx are too small, but since getting a M205, I actually find it quite ok.

Also, I find the M800 a bit big for my shirt pocket, and I need to carry my daily writer around. In fact, I carry 3 pens around, so I find M800 take up too much space, though it's not too heavy. If I need a desk writer, or if I have deep pocket , then maybe I'll get a M800.

Really a personal choice. I own both sizes of Pelikan with almost all possible nibs combinations. I have Fines that write like mediums and mediums that write fine. The M800 is heavier than the M600 but it what you are used to. How large do you write? Pelikan fines are not that fine when compared to Japanese sizing.

My personal favourites for writing are both custon grind nibs a 0.6mm stub in M800 size and a 0.7mm CI in M600 size.

A M600 fits in the shirt pocket better but a M800 gives an air of confidence.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
