Cross Signature Series

Hi this is my first post, so hoping you all can help. I purchased the Cross Signature series fountain pen, roller ball, & pencil from a Mark Cross shop in the early 90's (@92-94). I have the original box, original full ink bottle, with label that says Germany (bottle bottom says W Germany), 3 converters (green) & an original box of ink cartridges as well as 2 instruction booklets and $400 gold foil price label for the fountain pen. I put up for auction on ebay, and at the last minute was asked if this was made in US. I always assumed it was, but did some online research and found it should have USA on cap near clip. Other research stated booklet should have manufacturing date on it and even further research said nib should say 14K . I find NONE of this. My nib says 18K 750 M. Does not having this drastically reduce resale value? I always loved this line and would be sick to find it made in China. Especially for what I paid! I would really appreciate any insight. Thank you.

Hi.

I have Cross Signature Gold Electroplated fountain pen.

On my pen I have not found USA inscription, only CROSS, On nib, on clip on converter. Nib is solid 18 ct gold. I not have box and paper, but I sure is it genuine CROSS made in USA. Beautiful pen.

Dont worry. Your pen found genuine buyer.

My Cross.

Thank you Konis for your speedy reply. Your pen is beautiful. The one I have is the gold and black lacquer. My problem is that after even more research, I think that in the early 2000's, Cross was still assembling their pens in the US, but of manufactured parts made elsewhere. then, from what I can tell, around 2003, they even stopped assembling in Rhode Island plant (which I understand is now only administrative offices)and all pens are made elsewhere. I guess I am trying to find out how to tell when & where mine was manufactured. I suppose best thing to do is try to contact them directly. I had just hoped a member of the Pen Network would know & be able to tell me. Thank you again for responding.

  • 5 years later...

I have acquired my very first Signature. It has clearly been sitting quietly in a drawer for a long time, perhaps 20 years or more. An empty cartridge was still in place, with a spare (ancient, dried out) cartridge behind it in the barrel.

The nib seems to be in very good condition, but it writes very dry. I have carefully rinsed the section and feed, but if anything this has made it worse. My guess is that it ink residue is impeding the flow, and lumps of gunk have been only partially dislodged.

I wonder of other Signature users have experienced this, and what there favorite "solutions" are. It's a lovely pen, to be sure. I'm hoping it's not suffering from something nasty in the alimentary canal. Are there special challenges or quirks with the Signature that I need to know about?

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
