Platinum Maki-E (Kanazawa) Durability?

I found one post about the durability of maki-e pens (here), but the answers seem to only pertain to Urushi-finished pens.

I'm specifically interested in finding out whether the 'Platinum Kanazawa Leaf Maki-e' pens hold up well to daily use (which are not listed as having the Urushi finishing). I'm looking for a good, solid pen that I can use to take notes with daily, but also has some beauty to it. While I adore the appearance of this design in particular, even $200 is pushing it on my current budget; if it can't hold up to being my main workhorse, it'll have to wait :crybaby: My Lamy Logo (first pen) has served me well, but I really would like something a little more refined!

So, basically: if I carried it in a case and otherwise took good care of it, would this pen hold up? (I'd also be happy to hear about any other experiences with these pens!)

PS: Yes, I know these particular pens are screen-printed/not full maki-e  I'm not quite a starving student, but a genuine maki-e would be far out of my reach!

(Please be gentle - first post )

These pens(PTL-15000H ) are Urushi over plastic (AS Resin) as per Platinum.

I would look for their models with lacquer over brass. Pilot makes some such models I think. Also these pens can be bought for much less from ebay sellers in Japan like engeika.

HTH.

D'OH! Silly me :bonk: Well, at least the other post I read suggested the coating was rather tough, so that's good to hear.

I'll try to find some of these brass pens - I've mostly been having trouble finding pens within my range, vs. all the full-maki-e pens out there for thousands of dollars. :hmm1:

Edit: I wasn't really able to find a brass pen in my range (up to $200). I'm assuming changing the body from plastic resin would up the price too high

Also, thank you for the tip about ebay! I don't know why that didn't occur to me

Edit: I am finding some nice pens on ebay; a lot of non-branded ones, though, so we'll see how I feel about that

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
