It just came back in rotation since I got a mini converter for it. Beats cartridges.

It goes well with your avatar over there. :D

So it works with the mini converters after all, huh? Good to know. ;)

No, that's not blood. That's Noodler's Antietam.

Hi,

Just thought I would chip in with a frankenpen, at least I think its a frankenpen- "Diamond Medal" body with Star nib.

Thanks for sharing the picture. That is quite an interesting pen. I haven't heard of a "Diamond Medal" pen before. Can you tell me more about it?

Figured I'd make this thread my first post considering my current pen seems to fit perfectly.

Parker Premier Black. I love this pen.

My first love in pens was my father's Parker Duofold. It will forever be my favorite pen.

Hi,

I don't know that much about it myself, having bought it at a pen fair from a junker tray of pens.

When I bought it, it was all black; capped it measures 5.25 inches, and had a shield on its cap end containing the letter E, and the following wording on the barrel:-

Diamond Medal Pen Co Chicago Ill.

The nib reads:-

Star Cincinnati

I think this is not an original to this pen nib, since I have seen adverts for Diamond Medal pens that have Diamond Medal gold nibs.

There was a slot in the side of the cap for a cap clip (not present when I bought it).

As to its history, I have googled the following:

Diamond Medal was Sears Roebuck & Company's in-house brand, manufactured for it over the years by a variety of pen makers. This one is I think the work of the National Pen Company in Chicago.

Diamond Medal was not a sub-brand of National that was sold through Sears so much as a Sears-owned brand that contracted with National to make the pens. Later Sears would source through Parker, and then through another company - possibly C.E. Barrett. Nobody other than Sears sold Diamond Medal pens.

I do not know how old the pen is, or how it made its way over to England.

Regards

Terry

Thank you for the info. However it made its journey, it seems to be a very special pen. Use it in good health.

Tom, I indeed only showed my modern pens last time. Since then, I got a Platinum 3776 (very good pen by the way).

So here is the rest of my "black pen" collection, this time only vintage ones, except for the 3776, which remained capped, out of nib shame ;)

There are quite a few Mabie Todd Swans, a Mabie Tood & Bard, some Blackbirds, a couple Onotos, three Montblancs and a few Waterman's, a Malat pen, a few Bayards, and two Stylomine 303s (regular and lady size).

I didn't include the two Aikin Lambert and the Mabie Todd & Bard eyedroppers with gold repoussé overlays (snail shell pattern), as only the section is black, all the rest of the pen being hidden under the overlay.

Sorry about the low quality on the pic!

*Edit* And indeed, the M1000 was a daily pen. But that was a long time ago. These days, the daily pens are the S.T. Dupont Shanghaï, the Oldwin Classic (absolutely wonderful pen, recommended) and the Waterman Edson, and the last one, already named, the Platinum 3776 (I need more EF and EEF nibs).

There are too many new posts to keep up with, so please bear with me as I try to catch up.

Jar, the shot of the fading stars on those Montblancs is a real treat. I hope some of the market research folks at MB HQ stumble onto that photo. Your Montegrappas are also very stunning--just the right amount of color swirled in, and the cap bands really caught my eye. What a fun design vbg.gif

Olivier78860, your vintage collection is even more impressive. Thank you for taking the time to pull them all out for our little show-n-tell. So many chased HR models! clap1.gif

But what material is the pen that's 3rd from the far left? It looks like it has an amber hue with some criss-crossed pattern. Is it translucent?

Tequilasauer, welcome to FPN! Thanks for sharing your Parker Premier. May you use it in good health, and find a wealth of information and cheer on our little forum. W2FPN.gif

Orfew, I have noticed a theme to your collection. Tell me which you prefer: Montblanc or Pelikan? wink.gif

Hari, wow! drool.gif That is a sweet pen. Please tell us who makes it and how it writes. I'm assuming it's new since it looks so pristine. Is it??

It's a 1930s Waterman's Lady something (I don't remember, Patricia or Agatha) with, sadly, a 3V cap. Kind of a frankenpen, but with a nice wet noodle. It's a bulb-filler, made of translucent celluloid with a light snake skin pattern. It's too short to be used without posting.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
