What Fountain Pen Does James Bond Use?

Sheaffer Snorkel, shooting acidic ink that eats everything it comes in contact with. So BSB, I reckon.

Sounds like you're probably referring to Roger Moore's fountain pen in Octopussy. I found a youtube clip of Q introducing it but I'm not sure what exactly it is (some claim its a Montblanc?):

It's actually quite strange (given how fond Ian Flemming was of dropping brand names) that nobody can name a model, or even brand of pen that Bond used in the books. Is there a reference to this in Kingsley Amis' Bond consumer guide from the '60s?

The Boheme was mainly marketed towards women (that's what the MB lady said) so it would be perfect for M!

Pretty sure M is traditionally a man in the Flemming novels. Though Ms. Dench was superb in her time at the helm of the role.

Rob Maguire (Plse call me "M or Mags" like my friends do...)I use a Tablet, Apple Pencil and a fountain pen. Targas, Sailor, MB, Visconti, Aurora, vintage Parkers, all wonderful.

Ask and you shall receive on this website. I love that some of you took the time to upload links to a video so I could see the pen(s) in use again. I think I shall always hear Bond music now when I look at a Boheme from MB now. I can actually see a Daniel Craig type Bond liking the stubby pen for his pocket. It is minimal and he would of course gravitate to a basic device. I think the return to the novels roots with a change in M and the less gadgets in the movie and a bit more ruthless spy that Bond's next fountain pen is likely going to be a fountain pen....given his youth and the Swiss alps sort of upbringing on his ski trips away from Eaton's or wherever it was that he was educated I figure he will want some Swiss pen.

She did - but it was the Rollerball, unfortunately!

I think a Parker Duofold or Premier would suit him well. Unfortunately, Parker would probably rather he used one of their new 5th Technology range rather than a fountain pen. If you look on their web site it is all they seem to promote.

I will continue to enjoy my small collection of 45s!

Good Point: it's sad that Parker prioritises only the 5 th gen model, nice pen, but I found it impossible to view the rest Of the Parker range on their website. The truth is probably Parker doesn't consider fountain pens a priority business. . That's bad news FOR us FPN Members and a pity because Parker fountain pens still are Very nice in any price range.

Best wishes

Piero

In the novels, he is not from a posh background.

My favorite pen scene in the movies doesn't involve Bond himself. It's the "SPECTRE business meeting" scene in Thunderball, where the villainous Emilio Largo ("No. 2") is using what appears to be a black Parker Jotter. In the scene right after the embezzling SPECTRE agent gets electrocuted, you see the Largo character very casually check his pen before scribbling a note, as if nothing had just happened...

Always loved that whole scene. Amazing how many times it's been copied, just in the Bond films alone. (The Never Say Never Again remake, and the marvelous homage at the Bregenzer Festspiele, in Quantum of Solace.)

  • 6 years later...

In The Spy who loved Me, Fleming writes, "The writing was very clear and even and he [bond] used a real pen and not a ball point."

There's no mention of the brand, but clearly he has a FP somewhere in his arsenal.

Given the age those stories were originally written, a ball point was probably the new-fangled luxury pen, and fountain pens were run-of-the-mill...

Shouldn't it be a British National Security? :)

Why not use the S.T. Dupont James Bond edition pen and lighter combo?

I am in agreement with Jar, you won't feel bad if your Bic pen is used as an explosive device. Most of the other pens mentioned would evoke horror at their destruction.

But bics are more likely to explode in your shirt pocket rather than your opponent's.

I've got the shirts to prove it.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
