Aurora Black

Here's my review of Aurora Black ink. This is a real dark black ink, well behaved to boot. Doesn't have much showthrough either, which is real nice for how dark it is. Much less than Noodler's Borearlis Black (the closest comparison to the ink). I'd highly recommend this ink to anyone looking for a real dark black ink. Not my personal favorite black ink, but a pretty solid one nonetheless.

Here's the water resistance test. For this I wrote on a small Rhodia pad and after letting the ink dry for several minutes ran it under tap water for a few seconds.

Thanks for your review - I've been interested in this ink for some time!

Thanks. I'll have to check out my monitor since what I see in your review definitely has a lot of purple and/or violet plus more than a touch of brown.

My Aurora's black (on paper) is "really" black, only comparable with Noodler's Black, HOD, Manhattan, and Herbin's Perle Noire.

one of my top two favorite black inks...Hard top beat Noodler's Bulletproof black. Both are excellent, noodler's is cheaper. The Aurora has a different feel, probably a slightly different lubricity...never tested immediately back to back so I can't be more specific. I have Aurora at work and the Noodler's at home

Not that I can pick up, it's a pretty matte black, not as much as a pigment based one, but doesn't look wet or anything close to that, if that's what you mean.

Hello all,

Thanks for a great review and useful comments. My limited experiences with bottle ink date back decades, so i learn from you this way. Keep it going.

20 sec to dry doesn't work too well for me since I'm a lefty... Being a lefty kinda sucks in the FP world. Great review and the ink looks good.

Have you tried the Noodlers Bernanke fast dry inks? They are really good for lefties.

My new favorite black, and a perfect companion to a vintage Aurora 88P. Luxurious to write with.

I'm with you Renfield, I'm still on the search for one, although Parker Quink Black stood up surprisingly well, other than that Iron Gall inks are the way to go, they don't budge when a highlighter is used, but tough to get a black iron gall ink, most are blue-black.

Let me know if you find anything, I'll be sure to make a big post about it if I find one.

This has traditionally been my favorite black as well, though I'm branching out a bit into Pelikan's Brilliant Black as well.

I write in official documents all the time at work and black is the only colour allowed in official documents. All I can say is that, as a leftie fountain pen user, this ink has many advantages. First of all, its BLACK. Like really really black. A deep, dark, black hole sucking all the light around it black. I find very little shading when using it so I'm mighty pleased with the colour. Secondly, it dries at a very acceptable speed in that by the time I finish writing with my fine/medium-ish pen which is a bit wet at times, it usually dries up pretty quickly do as not to smear as I glide across. I've found my holy grail for black inks for official purposes and will not be looking any further as far as black is concerned.

Fountain pens are like weapons. They just make your pocket bleed so much.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
