Pilot Iroshizuku Tsuyu-Kusa

Here's my review of Pilot's Iroshizuku Tsuyu-Kusa ink. This is a really fantastic ink. It writes smoother than almost any other ink I have used and has a really great colour to it. I could certainly use the ink as an everyday ink. It has a fairly fast drying time and stands up to highlighters really well. Also has a surprisingly high water resistance for the shade of blue. The shading is really great too, has more on Rhodia paper than what I did the review on, but that's normal for inks. If it were a little less expensive I would have no doubt in my mind that this is my new favorite ink, as it stands I think I'd go with a slightly cheaper ink (Rohrer & Klingner Salix) for my regular use, but wouldn't hesitate to recommend this ink to anyone looking for an excellent blue in that has a fantastic writing feel to it.

Here's the review.

Here's the water test. For this I wrote on a small Rhodia pad and after letting the ink dry for several minutes ran it under tap water for a few seconds.

I have this ink, and it's definitely a keeper. Thanks for the review!

A cheaper alternative, if one is looking for one, would be Diamine China Blue. Not exactly the same but very, very close.

Hi,

I just bought this ink for my new Pilot Capless Limited Edition 2012. Quite nice, I agree it's a very good everyday ink.

Best

Hi Mafia Greek

Really great test as usual! I am getting a bottle right away.

Would you tell me where you got the lined, multi-punched paper you used for the test? Goulet used to carry it but not now. Thanks in advance.

I am replying to myself...I found where to get it mate.I have ordered a large notebook to try...how do you like this paper? Does it stand up well to fountain pen?

Thanks again for the great reviews of inks.

I got it from Staples, they also sell a punch so you can use whatever paper you want in the notebooks, which are made by Blueline.

The paper is pretty good, doesn't have much showthrough, which is usually the biggest problem with paper and fountain pens. The only thing is pens will write a little broader and it's not the smoothest paper, but all in all some good paper, I was pleasantly surprised by it really, especially for the price.

Here's the notebook I used for this review.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

The first time i used this ink with a relatively wet but thinner nib, I wasnt too wild about it.

I tried it again with a broader nib and oh hell yeah.

True bliss: knowing that the guy next to you is suffering more than you are.

Cool review, mine looks a tad more greenish and brighter... Comes out spectacular out of a Lamy Vista in M.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
