Sorry if it's been posted before, but I just got a beautiful booklet today about this; will post some scans later, but here are some links and photos about this unique piston fill/retractable nib design

Any idea how much it will cost for a 333 limitation? I doubt I can afford one...

Sorry about the delay on scanning and the poor quality; the current US storm has kept me busy.

Good news on it being affordable, there will be a resin version next summer. Also, check out the unique dual direction twist mechanism: one direction retracts the nib, the other fills the pen. Here's the download link:

Resin... Thanks, I was going to say that that last picture you posted looked like resin compared to the first pictures that looked like sterling silver.

Very interesting! The idea of filling/retracting the nib depending upon the direction of twist is very neat, and probably more elegant than the more "conventional" solution in the Visconti Metropolis, which, to my knowledge, is the first "recent" piston-filling retractable-nib pen (a recently-announced Delta-Chatterley limited edition is the only other I know of, and now this Montblanc).

Thank you for all the scans and information SteveSurf.

I find the Star on the Ltd. version very beautiful, but the star on the resin version seems a litlle weak.

The mechanism and the rest of the pen are great, but that star gives it a ToysRus look. Seems like it would be a piece you fit into a cut-out as a toddler.

That is just my opinion.

Hey, maybe you could use it to press into your wax seal? Give it a little colour!

You're welcome and I agree that the star has a "toy" look to it, but these brochures are usually done way in advance of product release, so engineering sample features can vary, sometimes greatly. It seems like the MB Boutique at the Palazzo has some advance information, so I'll try to get better release information. They even had the L'Aubrac a month ago, which I'll post pictures of as well.

As far as I know, it's not the direction of twisting the knob that makes the difference in actuating the two functions. The way it works, is that after extending the nib you pull on the knob to engage the piston.

When I look at a design like this I have one immediate question; "What the hell were they thinking?"

I can see absolutely no reasoning in this pen.

That makes sense.

Same thinking as in an automatic watch with date and time setting, as well as winding.

Looks like the Montblanc watch department is rubbing off on the folks in the pen department.
