Red Wine: Which Is The Closest Ink?

PAC 1957

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I like very much Bordeaux red inks, , so far I selected the following:

Montblanc Burgundy red

De Atramentis Valpolicella ( it's named like a famous italian wine...)

And more appropriate suggestions?

Thankyou very much

P.s.: there are many dark reds available, but the Bordeaux red is a specific dark red tone.

You might check out Binder Burgundy- remade by Diamine into an ink called 'Syrah'.

Note that Bordeaux, Burgundy and Syrah are different red wines (yeah, yeah) but more importantly that different ink companies comprehend and release different colour reditions, whatever their namings may be. Example: MB's original "Bordeaux" ink looked more like a Burgundy wine; the current release is now termed "Burgundy Red". IMO the colour differences here are inappreciable.

Along those lines, Visconti Bordeaux and R&K Alt Bordeaux are nice inks.

I prefer syrah over burgundy - wines and ink. What I really want is a Chianti (Super Tuscan) or a Barolo.

I'm always willing to share.

All I want is 1 more pen, and 1 more bottle of ink, and maybe 1 more pad of paper. Well, at least until tomorrow. Oh yeah, and throw in that bottle of single malt. Is that asking for too much?

thanks Chris.

+1 here for Diamine Syrah. It's truly a deep red wine color, especially when wet.

I had a Barolo with dinner. For inks, in addition to the aforementioned Diamine Syrah, DeAtramentis have a series named after wines with wine like colours.

I too was recently looking for a very 'red wine' color that had strength in appearance, and after bouncing between MB Bordeaux and PR Black Cherry I decided on the latter and am extremely satisfied with the choice.

My first experience with Private Reserve was with Avocado and Black Cherry has the same great performance characteristics. To me, the color easily mirrors a dark red and leaves little doubt in the intent.

I recommend it without reservation,

M.

Some of the DeAtramentis wine inks are evidently at least partially made out of wine.

Absolutely +1 for Diamine Syrah. It is a stunning, rich translucent burgundy.

I attach a sample from a comparison I did earlier in the year, I hope it helps:

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
