How Do Twsbi Nibs Compare To Sailor?

I'm soooo excited about the approaching release of the TWSBI mini (it is going to happen, isn't it? I haven't just dreamt it?) But I'm undecided which nib I'll go for. I have two Sailor Sapporos: one medium, one fine. I hope the TWSBI will fall within that range of line thickness, so I'm interested to know whether TWSBI nibs tend to run finer/broader than Sailor nibs, or about the same. Also, do they tend to be fairly wet or fairly dry?

Thanks for any pointers you can offer.

TWSBI are using standard Bock nibs (at least they are now). Before they were using Schmidt. In any case it doesn't matter since the Schimdt nibs were most likely made by Bock or JoWo.

The Bock (or Schimdt or JoWo) nibs run wider than Sailors. Go for a fine or an extra fine and they'll be close to your desired range.

Wetness is a set-up issue and depends on how the nib was set before leaving the factory. It can be adjusted at any time.

I have a Sailor 1911 and a TWSBI 540. The TWSBI is drier and scratchier (but not uncomfortable to write with). TWSBIs tend to run wider than Sailors by probably a half size (in my experience).

I would say at least half a size. My TWSBI extra fine vs my Sailor fine has the Sailor still finer. I'll try and remember to post a writing sample, but it may not be till tomorrow :/ . My nib however came perfectly wet from the factory. No adjustments (for either for that matter lol). But like someone said, you can adjust that pretty easy.

Either way I am looking forward to buying a Mini as well (really hope clear is an option and not just black :/ ). I'll be buying an extra fine for sure. In the near future I may even get my extra fine TWSBI nibs tuned finer heh.

Thanks all, that's exactly what I needed. I think I'll probably go with the fine in the end.

I'm sort of counting on there being a clear one, and it looks like Goulet pens are expecting them: http://www.gouletpens.com/TWSBI_Mini_Fountain_Pens_s/1287.htm. I don't own a demonstrator, and I think they look fantastic loaded up with something really vivid... I think I'll be buying a bottle of Herbin Orange Indien with mine :)

I forgot to factor in that my Sailor was 'wettened' up by the good people of nibs.com. A full size difference or more is probably much more accurate for a stock Sailor

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
