Blasphemy, Anyone Own A Nice Ballpoint Or Rollerball?

I'm evil, but I like the Parker Jotter. It's not a very expensive pen, but it writes the best of any ballpoint I've ever used. I really like the gel refills as well.

The thing with Parker is that the same ballpoint refill used in all their pens.

I'll just add that I love the looks of the Parker Duofold ballpoint. In fact, I like the looks of the ballpoint better than the fountain pen in that model.

I have a regular rollerball, a legrand rollerball, a classique in burgundy, a JSwift Rollerball, and a 75th anniversary classique rollerball.

Rollerballs definitely have their uses in the grand scheme of things. I personally love my rollerball because I refill... which allows me to have different ink colors and save money.

Don't misunderstand me. I absolutely adore my fountain pens (MB 149, MB 146, MB 145, MB 24, MB 320 and numerous other Waterman's, Pilot, Pelikan and cheapos) but my standard, go to pen for work is one of my 5 MB rollerballs or 4 ballpoints. I have both the Meisterstuck Classique series and LeGrand series in each.

Like another poster said, ballpoints and rollerballs are not temperamental like fountain pens and generally write the first time and every time I need them to.

I personally love them both, especially when it comes to Montblanc. I have a Starwalker Cool Blue BP and a Classique Meisterstuk BP. As for the rollerballs, I have a Classique and the new Cruise Collection in white. This thing is stunning! The platinum and white go together beautifully. I love the rollerball because the ink is much more pronounced than the BP and typically writes smooth if you choose a medium. However, I love the silky smooth feeling when writing with a BP with the broad point.

I agree with you about the Cruise in white. I have the BP and love it.

I love my RB and BP pens. They serve me best for my everyday writing needs. I do like the RB ink more but the ballpoint twist method is very convenient for running around the office (hence my montverde gel refills for the BP models)

Although BP and RB may be good writers, they lack one thing: SOUL! In fact you throw away the part, that might be the soul, when it is empty.

That's awesome! I was truly impressed when I opened the package. I also tried a BP version, but the twist mechanism had a lot of play, so I sent it back. I certainly hope your pen is good, which it sounds like it is! :D

LOL! They may certainly lack "soul", however, they do have the practicality behind them! I picked up my father's Hallmark pen, which is about 40 years old with the original refill. Guess what? IT WROTE! Honestly, I was BLOWN away! :yikes:

here are my go-to rollerballs and ballpoints: http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll296/penmanila/photo_zps5bc4b183.jpg the montblanc 100th anniversary RB was a gift from a friend; the duofold BP was a lucky ebay buy-it-now for $50; the parker sonnet RB is a match to an FP (like the MB 100th); the sheaffer "vineyard" BP is, i think, one of the most beautiful BPs ever (i got this at the chicago pen show in an "any 4 for $100" pile; it was tarnished all over, but i knew it was sterling silver); plus two jotter-type parker BPs.

I love my BPs and RBs.

I have:

Classique BP and RB

LeGrand BP and RB (Gold and Platinum Trim)

Solitaire Platinum-Plated Facet Classique RB

Star Walker Platinum and Resin RB

Star Walker Metal and Rubber RB

Star Walker Doue BP

Boheme RB

Boheme Arabesque Azur RB

When I am not using my FPs, I tend to use the Classique and Legrand BP and RB more often in the office.

My favorite is the Boheme Arabesque Azur RB.

Classique RB in gt, BP in gt

Solitaire pinstripe classique sized BP

Boheme .9 MP

LeGrand BP, RB, and MP in pt...

Blasphemy? Hardly... Worth the cost? From a utilitarian perspective, heck no. But, I do enjoy them!

Dont let the refill subject deter you from a Montblanc rollerball. I have, for years, converted and used all sorts of refills in my MB rollers. Its not hard and has been mentioned numerous times on here.

Oh and another rollerball which I really liked was the Montegrappa Reminiscence (could be spelt wrong that) which is the silver pen second in from the left. Should have kept it on reflection.

Sorry for digging up this old thread....

But what model mont blanc is the pen all the way to the left? I saw someone using it a few months ago, and I've been dying to find one!

I think but I'm not sure that it's a Sterling Solitaire RB in the parallel lines finish. The patterning of the finish is hard to see, and seems to have digital artifacts that make it a little confusing.

(I originally said "barleycorn", but I looked at some more photos and it looks like parallel lines instead.)

I have a fairly large collection of pens, and since I like to use them - and I do not like to write with fountain pens - 95% of them are rollerballs! My favorites (such as the Montblanc L'Aubrac, for example) I even have in double (or sometimes triple) in case one were to get lost or damaged!

The only FP in the collections are models which only exist as FP, and which I felt that I just HAD to have...

Just added a Montblanc Martélé rollerball to the collection, and could not be more pleased with it!

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
