So I need to finalize the helmet next. The last part is to check the details and also remove any excess stock from the inside of the helmet. It is heavy enough without the inside being solid.

start with a block of wax.

Then I heat a brass tube and insert it into the block.

Mount it in the lathe.

Make it round.

Mount it to hollow out the inside.

2 1/2 inches deep.

Mount it in the rotary axis aligning the hollowing steps.

Cut using various tools.

8 hours from the start.

Looks thin in one section (where it looks light colored).

Cut it open to look at the thickness and yes I am to thin in one area. Start over.

I changed the model to add thickness and also added more details to the base that holds up the helmet.

Close hopefully. I need to make a final change to the bump texture and and I had to increase the size of the button on top of the helmet.

These are the parts I made to date. Starting at the left purple helmet was the first model and was solid. The next I hollowed but to thin. I fixed the thickness on the third helmet and added some texture on the fourth but I do not like the look of it.

Surely look forward seeing the finalized pen !

Francis.

BTW, I expect will you cast the helmet is "lost wax" in the final stage?
