How Do You Display Your Inks?

Gorgeous display, Amberlea! I do not yet have that many bottles but what I struggle with is the temperature in my apartment. Rarely is it not too warm! In the winter, the heat is on so high that I have to crack open the windows and in the summer, when I'm not home to turn on the a/c, it is a sauna! I keep my inks in a dark closet, but I would love to display the few I have!

I promise you it isn't as hot as the caboose - I haven't heated it or A/Ced since I left for North Carolina - so my inks sat around without AC in the Las Vegas heat (but not direct sun) for at least 14 years. Don't worry, your inks will be safe.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Pretty soon the books will have to start finding other homes...ask me how I know ;)

Either, you saw which books I removed ... or personal experience!

I broke down and reorganized the cabinet. (I'd acquired a few new inks and needed to make room).

The embosser on the top shelf is a nice touch.

Ikea Billy book case with glass doors, stuck in crannies between 80 50 beer mugs with pewter tops.

15 of the 'missing' mugs are displayed in the living room...the others left home at a flea market.

If I flea market that '80's Jack Daniels decanter, I'll have room for 10-15 inks.

I am a George Dinkel man as is.

Ah ha, so that was what was in that decanter. Southern Comfort.

Oh wow, good to know! I can take them out again! Thanks!

No clue. My dad found it at an antique store many years ago and he decided that I "needed" it. So now I've had it for a few decades.

A little of both, but mostly the latter...I just had to add another shelf for inks that involved moving stuff out of that shelf!

If you think it's none of my business, that's fine, it's just that every time you post a new picture, the book on SQL jumps out at me. All of the other books seem to fit the profile of a lawyer who likes reading for pleasure. But that SQL book...are lawyers retrieving old cases now using SQL? Or, maybe your pen collection has grown huge enough that it needs it's own database? :D

I love the glass fronted book case. When my collection of ink grows a bit more I may have to displace some books and put my ink on display. For now it is contained in my 19th century Japanese clerk's/storekeeper's box that seems like it was made for the job. It is portable and goes well with the rest of the Japanese art in my office. I am quickly running out of room in it however and must either stop buying ink or find another container. Here are a few pics:

Nah, it's even worse. I use it every day. My first lawyer gig was for a huge BK, I was reviewing the other lawyers fees. Now, I use SQL to track robosigners.

The Coldfusion book beside the SQL book was written by my evoL-ex (and others).

Great answer. Did she fall for it, or did she commit an act of domestic violence?

Wow. You guys have a lot of ink! Me, I just keep all the original ink bottles in a box at home, and at my work desk in the office I have the ink sample vials rack containing 31 vials of ink. That's all the ink I have.

I'm trying to resist the temptation to buy more ink!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
